What's your walk score?
Submitted by imaginary dana on August 6, 2007.This is really interesting -- a website that calculates your "Walk Score," which translates to how many neighborhood conveniences (restaurants, bars, record stores, schools, parks, etc) are within walking distance of your place.
I've prioritized living in a walking neighborhood my entire adult life, so I'm kinda fascinated by this site (have entered nearly every place I've lived in Seattle already!). I scored a 75 for my current place, but I noticed it only found one restaurant (I live within walking distance of downtown Ballard so, um, obviously there are loads more), and it didn't find Sonic Boom Records under the record store category... but still, the idea is grand.
Go see how you score and report back!

Oh, good job telling all us imaginaries to go there at the same time. :P The website said it was too overloaded, thus not being able to work!

Yes! I blame Team Imaginary for taking down the site! WAHOO!

Ok, I got a 95 with a little bit of everything near by me.
Granted, I live right on the downtown edge of Cap Hill, so...

Ha, and my [hopefully] new address is also a 95!! However, that is going to be on the downtown edge of First Hill. So I'm a bit of a shoe-in. Must be why we're selling the car.

I got a 94 - which makes sense since there's only two Starbucks within 3 blocks from our apt.

HA! I just measured my childhood home in Delaware -- it got a walk score of 5 out of 100. Yep, that sounds about right.

Yeah, neighbor Char, with your two-blocks-closer-to-Broadway abode.
I'm still happy with my 92.

I bet if Vegette was still on 15th you would have gotten a 95. Mmm Vegette.
imaginary embracey said on August 7, 2007:
Ah yes. Good ol' Vegette, with their wonderful food, horrid service, and 10-minute average wait time for a dine-in glass of water.
Maybe the condos being built on the old Vegette/Teapot block will offer foodstuffs in their storefronts. 'Til then, I'll try to get by on my 3-point deficiency...

I got a 60 - about what I expected for my 'burb within the city locale. As usual, some stuff's going unaccounted for (Cafe Javasti, my coffee shop of choice, as one). But we're still batting over 500!

My neighborhood is incredibley dull! 15 out of 100! And that doesn't calculate the hills I would not be willing to walk up :\

I thought my walking options were severly limited in Rainier Valley but I scored a somewhat impressive 57 (if you lived here, you'd understand) - about 20 points higher than I expected.

OK, here in Davis, I scored a relatively healthy 74, pretty good considering a town of ~60,000. Go college towns!
UPDATE: Just for kicks, I tried my old neighborhood in Sand Point and it scored merely a 66/100. Go figure.

So igDana and I live walking distance from each other. But my walking score was 97. funny. there's at least 7-10 coffee shops within walking distance from my place, yet the one listed is the farthest away (and the one lowest on my list). Good concept, though.

Dana, you broke Walkscore.
