The return of the Amateur Lovers!

We TIGs just got a MySpace message that made my afternoon: my first favorite indie-pop crush band after moving to Seattle -- the Amateur Lovers -- will be reuniting for one night only to play the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Seattle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm not using those exclamation points gratuitously, I'm genuinely *that* excited.

The band will play on Saturday night August 25th at the Sunset and I will be there in the front row, cheering and singing along with every song: "Pleasure's easier to supply than demand, so when you're all alone, do you take matters into your own hands?"

Of note, I first saw the Amateur Lovers back in summer of 1996 as a genuine Northwest newbie, when they opened for, I shit you not, the Bay City Rollers at the old Ballard Firehouse.

Amateur Lovers

Go check out their MySpace page and have a listen: I'd especially recommended "Consolation Prize" and "My Grand Debut."

And one more squeal of excitement....... WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok so this is my first TIG post....and I take the leap because I must concur with Miss Dana... this band really is worth *all* of those exclamation marks. I too was there that fateful night at the old Ballard Firehouse and from then on dozens of more shows to see these guys.

I couldn't be sadder that I am in L.A. now and am going to miss this one night event! If there was such a thing as an exclamation mark for saddness, I would fill the page with them.

My personal favorite tune (not on the my space page) Deciduous Trees.

Thanks for represetning Dana.....I'll be thinking of you all.

I've never actually SEEN the Amateur Lovers play because I met one of the band members after they broke up. So I am DYING to see them but I'll be out of town that weekend. Will anyone be recording it so I can see it??? Or if you hadn't thought to take your video cam please, take it!!
