Tonight's Recommended Show: Harry and the Potters at Seattle Public Library

Ok, so, say you're igDana, and you're all OMG, the new Harry Potter movie is like totally out!, and the new Harry Potter book is coming way soon! How do I contain my oozing Harry Potter excitement???

Well, do I have the solution for you! Harry and the Potters come from Norwood, MA (it's near Boston) and they play songs in character as Harry Potter year four and Harry Potter year seven. They are brothers, both very talented and legit musicians, who just happened to have a brilliant idea that so far hasn't let them down. I mean, they've got over 95,000 MySpace friends!

They play tonight for FREE (wait, what? F-R-E-E) at the Seattle Public Library. At 7pm (so says their MySpace). Which gives you time to see them and still make The Catch, if, say, you're Kiku or ChrisB.

Alright, fine, so you're NOT igDana, Kiku, or ChrisB. Q: What are you going to do tonight at 7pm? A: OMG, totally still go to see Harry and the Potters for FREEEEE at the Seattle Public Library. I tell you why. Because, you needn't be a Potterhead (is that what they call them?) to enjoy HatP. Case in point: I, Betsy, have never ever ever read a Harry Potter book, nor seen a Harry Potter movie, yet here I am gushing about how totally awesome this band is. If I'm that crazy about them without much of a frame of reference, imagine the enjoyment you'll get from seeing them live. For free. Did I mention that it's free?

How crazy is this? I'm missing Harry and the Potters because I'm going to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix tonight!

Not in Order of the Phoenix, dude!

Dumbledore what?!?

I'm seeing Harry and the Potters, and then going to see Harry Potter! Its going to be such a magical night!

So sorry Betsy and ChrisB, I won't get to make the catch :\ In August though, I am definately going

ChrisB said on July 13, 2007:

Ooooh, that does sound tempting. I don't know if I can swing it tonight - but with there being no shortages of fun things to do on a Friday night, everyone wins, really.

And I'll see you in August, Kiku!

No, I know. I was just trying to make a funny.

It's totally a fine movie. As you already guessed, they REALLY skim (Loony Lovegood appears onscreen for like 3 seconds), but as one in a series, it's entirely acceptable.

Can I wait for H&tPs tonight? No, I cannot. I wonder how packed it's going to be?

Imaginary-Kiku said on July 13, 2007:

Ugh I can't go to HatPs, which sucks. But I will hopefully be seeing the movie :\ Will you be reviewing it feverishly tonight Dana? :D

I am so sad that I'm not going to either of these Potter events!!! But my sister's bday party will be awesome too (Happy bday Shelbs!). Maybe Order of the Phoenix tomorrow!

imaginary dana said on July 14, 2007:

I just got back. I *HATED* the movie. I might review it, but I think I'd rather pretend I never saw it.

I totally should have gone to see Harry and the Potters instead.

11

Imaginary-Kiku said on July 14, 2007:

Oh Dana, I agree. Was it just me, or did the face from Mad magazine make a cameo as Grawp?

12

imaginary dana said on July 14, 2007:

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You know, I didn't think of that, but you're completely right!!!

I HATED the film, seriously hated it. Couldn't wait for it to end.

I hated that Harry handed over the prophesy to Lucius.
I hated that they all heard the prophesy!
I hated that the kids don't fight back practically at all in the Dept of Mysteries.
I hated that they portrayed the centaurs as (poorly CGI generated) animals instead of thinking beings.
I hated that Harry pulled his wand out in front of Dudley's friends.
I hated that McGonagall and Trelawney and Hagrid practically aren't even in this movie.
I hated that Hermione is too stupid to say she has a plan when she and Harry take Umbridge into the woods and instead simpers "I'm improvising."

I did like the kitten plates in Umbridge's office, however...

BOOOOOOOOO for lame-o Harry Potter movies! Yay for book seven in ONE WEEK!!!

Imaginary-Kiku said on July 14, 2007:

I hated that Bellatrix yelled "Avada Kadavra" and actually killed Sirius, instead of just pushing him into the curtain! I mean, wheres the mystery of that?

And I also hated how Umbridge just blasted her way into the Room of Requirement (wouldn't that make it pretty unusable when its needed in the 6th movie?) and that Cho was the one who told her about it!

I can't imagine how confused I would be if I hadn't read the book. The scenes changed so abruptly, even knowing the plot I had a hard time following.

One thing I LOVED was the lady who played Bellatrix. She was the perfect amount of crazy :]

Mmmm I saw Harry and the Potters in Portland the other day... I think it was Tuesday. Anyway, they were really great live, much better than any of their recordings. So much energy and silliness. =D

So I was going to see the midnight showing of Order of the Phoenix afterwords, and the band was going to the same showing at the same theatre! =O It was amazing. When they walked in people applauded for them, haha...

Dear Kiku,

Get new friends.

xoxo,
Betsy

23

Imaginary-Kiku said on July 15, 2007:

haha upon first reading that I'd forgotten my previous comment, so I was a little confused!

Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't want to go :\ They're just lazy somedays. Maybe I should get the courage to go to shows alone?

24

imaginary ash said on July 15, 2007:

Going to shows alone can be intimidating, but remember that you're always way more aware of it than anyone else. A show like that would be totally fun anyway, whether or not you were with friends, but it would be a drag waiting in line to get in all by yourself. But yeah, I hear ya, cause a few months ago I was always going to shows alone cause none of my friends wanted to go, so I've made new friends who are total whores for rock shows, and now I can always find a companion!

25

ChrisB said on July 15, 2007:

I go to shows all the time by myself, mostly because I go to more shows than anyone else I know. I love my friends dearly and don't need new ones, but it can be tough to find someone to go the Crocodile on a Wednesday night to check out some band from Toledo or wherever. For the most part, I usually run into at least one person I know at the shows I go to. I think I decided that I like going to the shows more than staying at home because I can't find anyone else to go.

I did stop buying two tickets to shows after I had quite a few that went unused because I couldn't find anyone to go with me.

Interesting article about adults and the Harry Potter series:

Check it out

But I have read them all, and yes, Amazon will be delivering the final (?) one to me in just a few days' time...

Imaginary-Kiku said on July 15, 2007:

Aw I wish I knew people who always wanted to go to shows! But we're all poor and have curfews sometimes :\ Maybe once I learn to drive and stop making my mom take me everywhere I'll go to shows on my own...
