Blue Scholars #1 most added hip-hop at CMJ
Submitted by imaginary dana on May 8, 2007.
This just in: Blue Scholars are #1 most added hip-hop artist on CMJ this week, and their record Bayani debuted at #32 on the CMJ hip-hop chart. We have a review of the record coming soon, and it's an excellent one, so check back later this week.
A total of four Northwest artists are represented on the CMJ hip-hop chart: Blue Scholars (#32), the Saturday Knights (#30), Gabriel Teodros (#17), and Lifesavas (#6). Can I get a WOOT for NW hip-hop?

Uh, I run their label, and in 15 years of putting out records, I have never once paid for an ad on CMJ. These are real stations actually playing the album. For real.

Well, thats good news then. That makes it a lot more meaningful and I'm glad that the Blue Scholars have got a good label. Anything that will make them big makes me happy as the first album is one of my favorite things ever.
Let's just say I had many many labels offer all sorts of goodies and such for the "ad". We stopped reporting ads because they're meaningless for a freeform college station anyway. Sigh, maybe I'm just old and jaded now.

Well, good for the Blue Scholars!
That being said, "Ads" on CMJ are usually bought and sold like so much flea market crap (I speak from experience) that being a #1 Ad is most worthless.
And that being said, at least people are hearing the Blue Scholar name, so good for them.
Sorry, I don't have a lot of respect for CMJ after being an music director. Big ol' whore house they are.
