Saw the show from up in the rafters, and it was still good. I think the girl in the opening band had a dress made of lightbulbs, but being a football field away I can't say for certain... The backdrop behind them became a giant movie screen and a frenchman was covorting with a pack of hula dancers, sound blaring nearly unintelligibly (but mostly because of the French part) then some New York Dolls live footage, and an awkwardly silent East of Eden wardrobe check reel... and the lights went out, the screen fell down. Hugh red spotlights shoot out into the audience. Enormous photos of James Dean in the background..is that a gong? and a timpani drum? Oh dear me, and he appears! There is Moz all over the stage there is distortion immense amounts of distortion and all the hairs on my arm stand up on end.
He opened with the queen is dead. HE OPENED WITH THE QUEEN IS DEAD. Oh yes indeed. Then my brain melted out my ears so I can't recall the entire set list... New songs, old songs, SMITHS SONGS. About halfway into the first verse of Boy with a Thorn he stopped. Dead stopped the entire song because he couldn't hear himself??!? and we were pissed. Then he went right into Everyday is like Sunday and I couldn't be pissed anymore because it was too beautiful. He changed shirts twice, threw one of them into the audience..someone went home with the treasure of the year!!
Very cheeky inbetween songs. Very cheeky indeed. Said some snarky thing about people cheering for Johnny Marr when he wasn't even there...got a bouquet of flowers, removed his shirt for a tad and the entire building was screaming. Have to say, he has aged well. Reverb everywhere blasting through the floor and the seat up my toes and out my fingers How Soon Is Now? Can't even sing along, the shocks too much, so I'll just swim in it. Please Please Please for the encore. Oh Yes. I think I might have cried a little in a moment of perfection.
One question though, why was his backing band dressed like UPS workers? They pulled the show off amazingly well, even if it did take two Johnny Marrs.
Morrissey. I saw Morrissey. Did that even really happen?? Guess I'll be listening to little else for at least a month...which won't be much of a change from usual I suppose.

The Queen is Dead, How Soon is Now, and The Boy with the Thorn in his Side???? I thought Morrissey typically didn't play Smiths songs???
Holy shite. Thanks for sharing, imaginarycanary. Stella, can't wait to read your review as well. Sounds like an AMAZING show!

Report in on how it was! Were there any mentions of Johnny Marr or shirts thrown into the audience? Dried flowers? Smiths songs?
