New releases for the week!

Now this is a big release week!

I'm super stoked about Dntel from Sub Pop, The Blow, and those Arctic Monkeys.

I'm also curious about the new Maria McKee. I loved Lone Justice and a couple of her solo efforts have hit home, but girl is CRAZY so you never know what you get!

I'm sorry, but I laugh out loud whenever I hear the name Snatches of Pink. And when I see pictures of them too.
Is that mean?

I am really looking forward to the Calvin Johnson and the Sons of the Soil record! I just looked up info on it (it's release has caught me off guard... I had no idea that was being worked on!) and it sounds so cool!

In case there's anyone like me who was unaware of the story behind this record, the idea for it came from Khaela Maricich (the Blow) and Jason Anderson. The album is a compilation of what Calvin Johnson performed his best songs with a band of real music-making people.

The track listing (11 tracks in all) includes songs originally recorded by Halo Benders ("Love Travels Faster"), Dub Narcotic Sound System ("Booty Run") and the Go Team ("Sand").

I reviewed that Calvin Johnson record for a certain Seattle monthly that's on newstands now... It's very, very good, with an illustration by Khaela from the Blow on the cover. How very K Records.

Check out Charlotte Gainsbourg, as well. Music by Air, lyrics by Neil Hammon (The Divine Comedy) and Jarvis (of Jarvis and Pulp). It's excellent, excellent, excellent. Better than the new Air.

Simply Red? Really?
