The Official Bright Eyes Countdown
Submitted by imaginary liz on March 27, 2007.
Only 14 more days until the official release of the new Bright Eyes' album (Cassadaga)!
To bide time until the big day, check out the Saddle Creek Cassadega webpage to download three pallette wetting songs, watch the "Four Winds" video, or pre-order the album.
NOTE: If you pre-order the album there, you'll get it before the release date AND receive a bonus cd or 7"! They've already started shipping them, so my fingers are crossed that, Godspeed, it will be here by the end of the weekend.
Oh my, I just got lightheaded thinking about it.
Or if you want to get a taste for what is yet to come, head to your local record store at lunch time and pick up the Four Winds EP (released in early March). On the EP is one of my favorite songs of 2007: "Reinvent the Wheel"... or "Stray Dog Freedom"... or the title track "Four Winds." I can't choose.
Oh, and another countdown... 35 more days until the next Bright Eyes show in Seattle. Bright Eyes will be at the Paramount on Tuesday, May 1st. Get your tickets now... I'm fairly certain it is going to sell out.

I'll never match your Conor devotion, but I'm always happy when "Four Winds" comes up in my shuffle. Every time I hear those gorgeous country arrangements I'm a little bit awe-stricken.

It's a Christmas carol, for peet moss' sake.
Does anyone else catch the "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" rip-off in the violin melody at the beginning of Four Winds? I mean, come on.
Bright Eyes went downhill after Fevers and Mirrors. Granted, it was a very high hill, and Lifted... was good. But come on. That Digital I-can-be-the-postal-service-too thing was wretched, and the Wide Awake It's Morning-and-I-can-be-a-Ryan-Adams-Heartbreaker-too album was better but a big step down from Lifted.
He's not a sad anymore; he's lost his edge.
Bring back the Desaparecidos! DESAPARECIDOS!!!!

Did Joe really just proclaim that Conor is a Ryan Adams wannabe?
Really?
Truthfully, I've never been able to make it through a Ryan Adams album without being disillusioned by his arrogance or bored to death by his recycled alt-country dream. In my book, the most notable thing he’s done is date Parker Posey.
So, I guess I'm a bad judge when it comes to discounting his worth versus Bright Eyes. I don't see how they are contemporaries... and if they are, how the audience of one would be able to appreciate the other.
I think the edge is definitely still there on the new album. He's a more mature version of himself and explores his themes of pain and joy with a more focused deliberate pen.
And yes, Desaparecidos rock the free world in a big bad way.

"The most notable thing he’s done is date Parker Posey." LOL!
Priceless. I'm getting that quote tattooed on me.

It's true... and if *I* dated Parker Posey, I'd certainly get a commemorative tattoo. I'd also make sure that we had Christopher Guest over for dinner. Often.
Does anyone know if Ryan ever got a commemorative Parker (or Posey) tattoo? I think if he got a flower ink'd someplace that counts too.
imaginary embracey said on March 27, 2007:
Dunno. But Amy Sherman-Palladino should get a Parker tattoo -- La Posey is starring in her new FOX comedy pilot!
Take that, Ryan Adams...

Fountains of Wayne? You must just be beside yourself about the new Bowling For Soup album?
Jospeh Riippi said on March 28, 2007:
Oh, come on...
Ryan Adams is awesome. Let's just admit it. Cold Roses ain't that far from American Beauty (yes, I said it) and Heartbreaker blows away Conor's entire career.
This, i remind you, is coming from a long time Bright Eyes fan. I just don't enjoy the new stuff. After that comment the other day i went home and dropped Fevers and Mirrors on the turntable and had a grand ole time listening the calendar hang itself.

Bright Eyes, Schmight Eyes. My calendar is set to countdown the next Fountains of Wayne record.
7 days. 7 very long days.
