Tonight in Seattle:

holiday

Getting into the holiday spirit by watching videos on repeat

I've found the best way to solidify my holiday cheer is with holiday mix tapes and eggnog. This year I've yet to have a cup of the 'nog (which I hope to remedy at the holiday party for the dayjob tonight), but I  have found myself watching a handful of holiday song videos on repeat and repeat and repeat. I thought I'd share them with you in case you haven't connected with your inner jolly yet.

What's your favorite holiday video? Please share below!
(you can post videos at 500 pixel-width in the comments!!!)

I am so in love with this new holiday album by Tim Wheeler (of Ash) and his girlfriend Emmy the Great.  The album is chock full of classics, like "Zombie Christmas," "Sleigh Me" and "Jesus the Reindeer," that make for a slick, infectious indie-rock holiday soundtrack. This video captures that vibe of the whole album, This Is Christmas and illustrates just how stunningly cute this couple is.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! And I will never be able to get that Princess Superstar song out of my head, Liz. :) Thank you!

Also, I vote that we all get crazy Christmas Sweaters for some kind of TIG thing next holiday.

Your photo with Indie Rock Santa John Roderick is *sooo* cute / hot / rad!

Indie Rock Santa John Roderick

Thank you all so much for making our holiday wishes come true! Last Friday's Imaginary Holiday Party was so much fun--all thanks to you and yours for coming out to the Columbia City Theater to toast the season and 2011 with us.

We had to call in an audible and our friend John E. Hollingsworth took care of all the Santa Roderick photography duties at the last minute. He is an amazing photographer and we can't thank him enough for the last minute favor.  His talent, combined with the cutest Santa ever {John Roderick of the Long Winters} and all of our saucy imaginary friends and their poses, have made it hard to pick a favorite Santa photo of the night!

To see them all, head over to our Three Imaginary Girls Sparkly Indie-Pop Flickr Page.  You can download printable versions {perfect for next year's holiday card!} and "favorite" the ones you like best.

Come back in the next few days as we hope to post photos of the evening's fabulous performers {Eef Barzelay, Mal de Mer, Temp Score, and The Heligoats} soon soon soon.  I haven't seen any yet, but know they will be as stunning as our Santa photobooth shots.

Here are a few of our favorites... which ones do you like best?

Chris Estey! You were so missed!  And then I sadly had to miss your Spokanarchy gig.  We really need to align our calendars!

Merry Imaginary Christmas Eve!

I searched for an actual video for both this and The Pogues "Fairytale of New York", but uh. This is what you get instead (hey! I had that 45!). I challenge you not to dance & sing along, my friends.

Spice up your holiday mixtapes with festive indie songs

{Photo taken at the 2010 Imaginary Holiday Office Party by Laura Musselman}

We posted our own mix of holiday songs that kicked our imaginary holiday season off a couple weeks ago. But, since then, we've found ourselves up to our jingle bells with more awesome holiday songs! With the seasonality limitation of holiday music, sometimes it's easy for our holiday mixtapes to get stale. Here are some recommendations to fill out your annual holiday playlists:

Mangle Bell Rock by the Mangles
It's a wonderfully rocking batch of songs that blend both Seattle and Minneapolis vintages of garage rock. Favorite track: "Living White Hell"

Christmastime Approximately by various artists
I found this compilation via Eux Autres who have a super stellar track, "Teenage Christmas," on the Christmastime Approximately compilation. If you hurry on over to the Where It’s At is Where You Are Records website, you might still be able to download the entire album for free (for a limited time only). Another fave track: "Just Like Xmas (In Cottonopolis)"

Post that killer photo of you and Santa and win free tickets

Imaginary Holiday - Photo with Santa

We are counting down to the moment that we get to {gently} plop our imaginary arses on the knee of Santa Vanderslice for a pretty photo taken by photographer extraordinaire Laura Musselman at the Imaginary Holiday Office Party next week {December 16, 2010}.

But we know that things haven't always been so indie-rock for all of us... and we want proof! Please share your favorite / best / worst / funniest / cutest photo of you with Santa by posting it in the comments section of the Facebook invite for the Imaginary Holiday Office Party.

We'll reward the photo with the most 'LIKE's by 9a December 13th with a pair of tickets to the Imaginary Holiday Office Party {Thursday, December 16 at the Columbia City Theater}.

We can't wait to see what Santa looked like when he has his photo taken with you!

{I know it doesn't look like I wearing a skirt in the above photo. Short skirts were in that year!}

The Imaginary Holiday Office Party: featuring... John Vanderslice!

2010 imaginary Holiday Office Party with Santa John Vanderslice

The search for mistletoe has begun -- and we're counting down to the big Imaginary Holiday Office Party!

The most exciting development of today: it's now officially official that John Vanderslice will not only be our Indie-Rock Santa for the night {and yes, you'll be able to get your picture taken with him for posterity by the amazing photographer Laura Musselman}, but he'll also be taking the stage to perform a set! That makes for a killer 4-band bill of:

~ The Tripwires
~ The Young Evils
~ John Vanderslice
~ Jose Bold {John Osebold of "AWESOME"}

We're eternally grateful to Killorn O'Neill for helping us to get the word out to the masses with this rad poster! We'll be slopping on our winter boots to staple these up around town (remember, imaginary volunteers are always welcome -- especially when it's a benefit!) Feel free to grab the above image and slap it on your blog / facebook page / desktop background to remind you to get your fine self there... and yes, there will be full-color mondo-size screenprints of the poster at the event for purchase.

We can't wait for this night of amazing music, tons of imaginary cheer, and to celebrate it all with you! Tickets will be on sale tomorrow {Wednesday, 11/24} at 10a {or there abouts} and all proceeds will benefit Teen Feed.  We'll post and twitter and Facebook profusely when they are available for purchase -- but they are limited, so make sure you get yours while you can!

Perfect pop songs for your Christmas party!

I've spent the last several holiday seasons attempting to make (or at least thinking about making) a great pop mix of winter/Christmas/holiday songs and I always drop the ball. This year, Indiecater did it for me!
