Some of Three Imaginary Girls' favorite (and some infamous) moments of the first five years of our tiny lil web existence (from 2002-2007) involve The Divorce.
Over the course of an introductory EP, two full-length albums (2003's There Will Be Blood Tonight and 2005's The Gifted Program), and countless live shows, the Divorce embodied the both the sweet and salty of the Seattle music scene of the time. On stage they were fresh and fearless, belting out beautifully destructive pop songs to packed crowds. Then, in 2007, they decided to call it quits (the 'D' word if you will) and dispurse into different bands and projects.
On Saturday, July 30, 2011, they will once again take the Crocodile stage together to Divorce it up and of course we'll be there. What a better time to chat with the four Divorce fellas (Shane Berry-lead vocals, keyboard, guitar and tambourine, Garrett Lunceford-lead guitar, Jimmy Curran-bass, and Kyle Risan-drums) to find out why they are reuniting now and offer some more insight into the band for those that might have missed them the first time around. To do so, I thought it a great opportunity to resurect our original interview series (circa 2002-2006): Coffee with a Rockstar.
TIG / Liz: I can't believe in all of our Divorce fandom TIG never sat down for a Coffee with a Rockstar imaginary interview with you guys. It's surely a sign of our shyness. This chat is a long time coming and there's a lot to catch up on, but first, we have our ice breaker traditional first question:
Every Valentine's weekend, my lovely friend Jenny George celebrates another year on earth by flipping off the bastard that almost took her from it with a birthday cover show that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This year, please join us at The Crocodile this Friday, February 11 for Dancing on the Valentine VI: Strangelove and give cancer a big "F YOU" while listening to Depeche Mode covers by Seattle bands, buying raffle tix for awesome prizes, and you know, probably drinking a lot.
We can't tell you who's covering what (that would spoil the surprise!), but we can tell you who's playing: Black Swedes, Hotels, Exohxo, SHiPS, Lesli Wood with Jupe Jupe, Sean Nelson & Phil Peterson, Legion Within, and The Animals at Night w/special guests Brent Amaker & Ruby Mimosa from The Atomic Bombshells!!! Tickets are $10 advance ($12.38 online w/fees from The Croc, $12 @Sonic Boom locations) or $12 at the door. Every bit of the $10 gets donated + all your raffle dollars!
Bonus: we've got a pair of tickets to giveaway! Send an email to us at tig {at} threeimaginarygirls dot com by Thursday 2/10, 6pm - subject line: Strange Highs and Strange Lows and we'll pick a lucky winner at random and notify them Friday AM (that way you can spend all your donation $$ on raffle tickets!)

This Saturday at the Sunset is going to be off the Maneater hizzay as some of Seattle's brightest take the stage to celebrate Hall & Oates and our dear {imaginary staffer and all around indie-queen} Heather Hydra's birthday!
Will there be fluffy Oates mustaches aplenty in the Sunset at the show? The scent of Aquanet wafting from the bathroom? Have we all been practicing our clapping to replicate the tight synth of "Private Eyes"? Fingers crossed / possibly / I hope so!
I *do* know that bands like Ships and Pony Time and as well as members of Police Teeth, Racetrack, Your Heart Breaks and many more will be taking the stage to tackle the multiple-decades catalog of a band that defined 1980's {and for some, the 1970's} for many a feathered-hair folk.
To get us in the mood, here's a little Rich Girl {she's a B!T*H girl!!!} for us all:
Latest comment by: Imaginary Amie: "hee. That's true! Such a great song. "

Latest comment by: Emily: "You go Kiku! This was an awesome review, and spot on. Plus, Chona's pictures look awesome. "
Ships, words and photos by Sarah Joann Murphy
Latest comment by: elle: "Yes, Ships is definitely one of the better bands around town right now. It's too bad I missed this show!"
What also makes this band ear-catching is the fact it's almost like a Seattle all-star group.
Latest comment by: maxxine: "I do love a nautical theme. "
Just say "Fuck you, Loggins!" to the door guy, and the cover drops to a mere $5. Seriously, so smooth and awesome!
Latest comment by: imaginary liz: "Oh my did those bands last night rock! Where are the pictures? There were some yacht rock outfits that have to be shown off in photo form! Any quick youtubers? FOOTAGE please! Megasapian, I think I love you."
Tonight Saturna, our fair shoegazer brethren to the south, will visit Seattle to celebrate the release of the album Some Delicious Enemy.
Latest comment by: imaginary dana: "I am really excited to hear more from Ships. How can you not be excited for a show that features a poster like this?? "
