Only one more day until the Capitol Hill Block Party!
To prep, I've been perusing the to see what I have in store.
One of the most talked about Seattle bands as of late is the New Faces. They may be one of the younger bands on but they have the kicks to keep up with the likes of the much more seasoned bands. They remind me of a young Kinks with their heaps of serious hooks and solid songwriting. Make sure to head over to the Vera Stage at 4.45p on Saturday (July 25) to see for yourself.

Only two more days until the Capitol Hill Block Party!
The Maldives will be taking the Neumos Stage at 6.30p on Saturday (July 25) and I for one hope to see if we can see something as cute as the above happen again. Mothers, mohawk your lil ones and maybe they can take home a Maldive guitar pick!
To plan out what some of our picks are, check out Chelsea's Capitol Hill Block Party preview. To see a sample of what we might be in store for this weekend, peruse the Sparkly Indie Pop Flickr Photo Pool for a photo sampler.

Only three more days until the Capitol Hill Block Party!
To prep, I've been perusing the Sparkly Indie Pop Flickr Photo Pool to see what I have in store. Here's a photo of the Past Lives who will be taking the Vera Stage at 8p on Friday (July 24). If you haven't seen them already, this photo should convince you to head to the Vera Stage in time to catch their set.
And for those putting together their "what to see at CHBP" spreadsheet, check out Chelsea's Capitol Hill Block Party preview.

The countdown to the Capitol Hill Block Party has begun! In less than a week tons and tons of the coolest bands will be taking one of three stages in the lovely (and likely warm) Pike Pine cooridor.
To prep, I've been perusing Flickr to see what I have in store. Here's a photo from the Sparkly Indie Pop Flickr Photo Pool of the Dutchess and the Duke who will be taking the Main Stage at 4.30p on Friday (July 24).
Thanks to Blush Photo for sharing with us!
Hot and sweaty show goodness!
Thanks to Dan at 10 Things who captured this photo of the Anchor Down show at the Barnhouse last week (07/08/09). I've never been to the Barnhouse - but it looks like it packs a houseshow vibe with the best of 'em.
Check out the Imaginary Flickr Photo Pool for more sweaty pictures... today it's flush with lots of plaid!
From the most lovely and talented Sarah Jurado, here's a shot of Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold, headlining last night's A Drink for the Kids Vera Project Benefit.

I've gotta admit, I didn't recognize him for a moment, what with the shorn locks. Nice new 'do, Robin! (Or at least, new to me.) And because I can't resist a tender sibling moment, check out this fantastic shot of Robin with his (likewise lovely and talented) sis, Aja, who joined him onstage to cover Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams."

The night also featured performances by local faves Grand Hallway and Throw Me the Statue. Sarah has a sweet writeup of the event over on her blog, and more photos over at the TIG Flickr pool. Enjoy!

Even though photographer extraordinaire William Anthony relocated from Seattle to So-Cal, he is still among our favorites. While he was in Seattle, he captured some of our finer moments as well as those of loves like Her Space Holiday.
It's no surprise then that his touching portfolio of shots taken outside Michael Jackson's memorial service would bridge the distance between here and there.

Loney Dear. Photo by Steve Louie.
Loney, Dear. Gotta love the Swedish folk. They love to tell stories about their experiences on tour in America. Lead singer Emil Svanängen recalls his day spent visiting the Sub Pop offices (and being very appreciative of them) and walking around memorizing the street names near the Crocodile.
Latest comment by: John in Ballard: "Pretty good show...not as big of a turnout as I anticipated, but that made for a nice intimate show where everyone had room to breath a little. I was sad Loney didn't play "The City, the Airport" but other than that it was a pretty enjoyable show. "

Latest comment by: Amie Simon: "I still fondly remember when Rilo Kiley played The Vera Project (many many years ago), hopped into the audience and pulled people onstage to sing with them! Man, I miss that. "

Latest comment by: Sarah Jurado: "@quest - Damien did tour with bandmates Eric Fisher + Jenna Conrad for years, and recorded the last two albums with them. [And with Eric for much longer!] He's now touring solo, and though Eric + Jenna are sorely missed, it does allow for a more diverse ...
