To test out the new songs from their last album, 2008's Accelerate, REM had some "working rehersals" that they played for packed crowds in Dublin a year before. They thought those shows went pretty well and turned it into a movie. The result is an hour long concert film called This is Not a Show: Live at the Olympia in Dublin. Said film is screening for three nights this weekend (all at 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at the Northwest Film Forum.
We also have a pair of tickets to give a TIG reader to one of the screenings. If you want to go, just e-mail us at tig@threeimaginarygirls.com before 9am on Wednesday morning, October 21 with "accelerate" in the subject line and the screening you want to go to in the body (either Friday, Saturday or Sunday).
Ok, probably not, but that's the kind of year 2008 is shaping out to be.
But I did just found out that REM is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Murmur with a deluxe reissue. In short, the whole package will rock.
Latest comment by: Chris Estey: "That headline actually fried my mind, Liz. I would go ape-shit nuts and crazy loops over that. THANKS though for the wonderful fantasy!!! "
This Tuesday night (June 24th) at Easy Street - West Seattle, you can purchase your copy of the book and have it signed by the photographer, the designer, and the guitarist (PETER BUCK!!!).
Latest comment by: imaginary liz: "It's an REM miracle! My ltd ed poster arrived on Friday! HELLO: I'm so excited; I've got the cool poster AND a signed book (Buck signed a happy face in my book, he's totally my BFF)."
Those boxes of REM magazine covers and fan club mailings are sought after ebay items once again!
Latest comment by: rk: "cosign #2. After seeing them up close at Stubb's, seeing them from a distance at the cavernous dump that is Key would be anticlimactic. But seeing them at the Gorge, presumably right after Modest Mouse, is going to be INCREDIBLE! "
Day by day line up announced
Latest comment by: randy: "Going Saturday, for sure. Wouldn't mind seeing the Sunday and Monday shows too, but I don't do camping. "
Sneak Peek @ SXSW Line-Up
Latest comment by: randy: "I am SO looking forward to SXSW this year! I wish I could clone myself because there's no way I'll be able to see every set that I want to see."
As much as I put down the Pioneer Square music scene, I love a good cover.
