NME has posted their "Cool" findings for 2007 on their website and has opened the voting for the Readers' Top 10 on their website.
Latest comment by: imaginary liz: "Yea we should start a list / Readers vote! Although, tied with Erik G is Jarvis."
I discovered that there are a whole pile of covers of classic songs by current acts on the Radio 1 Established 1967 compilation. Now, it is a mixed bag, but songs include...
Latest comment by: imaginary dana: "I am completely intrigued by the Gossip track as well. Beth Ditto sings George Michael??? My karaoke spirit yearns to hear this."
The Klaxons' Myths of the Near Future walked away with the 2007 Mercury Prize. For those of you who don't remember, the likes of Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys, Bats for Lashes and Dizzee Rascal were nominated, yet somehow the remarkably blah Myths of the Near Future. The Brits just keep on baffling me, I guess.
Latest comment by: greggoir: "Yeah, he did say he wasn't going to tour, but the I think the whole thing was debunked as lil' Patrick just seeking attention, which certainly agrees with his current diva image."
Yes, it is that time of year for the baffling and somewhat odd Mercury Prize. Nominees for this year's award were announced today, and here they are.
Latest comment by: imaginary dana: "I agree -- I thought the Basquiat Strings were interesting, and of course, love the Winehouse record.... but Jamie T. can totally suck it, and I'm not so fascinated by any of the others. Still, beats the Grammy nominations by miles."
I've decided to undertake a project each week to run down the Top 10 songs on NME and try to listen to every song (and trust me, I've acquried all the songs legally, let me tell you) and try to post a link it on the web too!.
Latest comment by: toby: "I like the klaxons well enough, but that record will likely be gathering dust along with all of my PWEI cds in a year. Sadly the Editors new record is just as boring as the new Interpol record. The Wombats are ace! Kinda bummed their short US tour is skipping ...
Just because it is now officially NME Thursday, how about we talk about the Greatest Indie Anthems ever... and what NME / Xfm and the general UK public think they are.
Latest comment by: tedward: "I agree with dfle3 - great aussie pub rock would blast most of thesse anthems off the list and he/she/whaaaat!!! is especially right about DO RE MI being one of the greatest songs ever recorded"
Thanks to a live webcast stream, now we can see all the great bands playing Coachella this weekend without having to deal with the lines, portapotties, drum circles, and $10 bottle of waters.
Latest comment by: stella: "This is seriously so cool. Absolutely no need to travel 3 hrs, bake in 3-digit temperatures, and spend 3 figures... What will this do for festival attendance in the future? "
