Thanks again to everyone who stopped by the Crocodile on Monday!

It was *so so awesome* seeing you and boy oh boy did the double helpings of pizza make my tummy happy. I still have a couple of those wooden tokens for rum drink specials left over; I suppose I've kept them to remind me of the rum vanilla-y goodness for weeks to come.

Word from our interoffice email threads since the event confirms that every member of the DJ crew had an amazing time! Chris Estey, Amie Simon, and Victoria VanBruinisse really outdid themselves putting together their sets.

Some folks who couldn't stay the whole time (or perhaps redeemed one too many of those wooden rum drink tokens) asked for a recap of the set... so here's mine:

The Smiths as covered by members of Built to Spill, Wedding Present, Vivian Girls, and...

(Doug Martsch covering a Smiths song that isn't "Reel Around The Fountain")

It's been a while since we've heard anything new from a member of the Smiths, so it's perfect timing for a new Smiths covers album... especially one with tracks interpreted by the Wedding Present,  Doug Martsch (Built To Spill), The Rest (one of my favorite new Arcade Fire-ish Canadian bands), Katy Goodman (La Sera, Vivian Girls), and Tanya Donelly.  This latest tribute will be released on American Laundromat Records this Fall and they are still adding folks to the track listing... which currently includes:

(500) Days of Summer: She & Him cover The Smiths

Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward, She & Him

One of the most enjoyable films I saw at SIFF this year was the Marc Webb directed/Scott Neustadter penned (500) Days of Summer – which packed in enough pop culture references to make me feel really nostalgic. Of course this carries over to the soundtrack, something that I’m HIGHLY anticipating (out July 14th on Sire Records).

But I digress: I mentioned before that Zooey Deschanel’s band She & Him would have an exclusive track covering The Smiths “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” and lucky for us, Stereogum is featuring it! Click here to read the article, listen to the track - and see a cute video of Zooey & co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt gabbing about karaoke tunes.

How Soon is Wednesday Night?

Andy Rourke, the bassist for the Smiths, is performing a DJ set at the Sunset tomorrow night.

Latest comment by: ChrisB: "Oh I didn't to stay for Andy Rourke's set. He was scheduled to go on at midnight but that's exactly when Hotels finished up and I had to leave at that point. That was just way too late for me to be out on a Wednesday night. I did like all three local bands to play ...

Does the world need *another* Smiths compilation?

What is on your The Sound of the Smiths compilation? Did they miss anything? That is, except for the limited edition screen printed poster and live DVD.

Top 10 songs about imaginary girls

It would sure be great to give our imaginary baby a name that already has an amazing song associated with it. Got any suggestions?

Which albums must be heard on vinyl to fully appreciate?

Our imaginary household has recently acquired a kickass turntable and a decent pair of speakers, so we've spent many the evening geeking out with our (very small) pile of records.

Latest comment by: stella: "I don't know that this would be due to any feud -- that Moz/Marr 'severed aliance' has been pretty well buried over the years, as I understand it. But my hunch is Moz turned this down as he's gone on record in the past by saying that those Smiths songs were of a ...
