This coming weekend is going to be full of more fun than an swim-up pool bar. Friday night (7/9) we have the blessed reunion of Carissa's Wierd at the Showbox at the Market. If you haven't heard why you must be there, you can sample their song and hear some reasons on our recent Imaginary Mixtape podcast. Or you can just read intricate tales of our long term Carissa's Wierd love affair.
That same Friday night our friends at TBTL are hosting an amazing night of "Imaginary Radio" over at the swanky new Columbia City Theater with performances by Sir Mix A Lot, Rachel Flotard, John Roderick, Ben Huh and others. It's already sold out, but for those of us that can't make it on Friday, the TBTL-ers have added a Saturday night show (some tickets still available) with an equally stellar lineup: Smoosh, Blue Scholars, The Lonely Forest, Andy Haynes and a couple more surprises!
Of course, one look at the imaginary calendar and you can see a bunch of other possibilities too! Which way are you headed this weekend?

Three Imaginary Girls is excited to present a very special GET TOGETHER to have a sneak listen to the brand new NOT YET RELEASED album from the New Pornographers on Friday, April 23 at Neptune Coffee (at 8415 Greenwood Ave N.) from 6p-7:30p. The evening is free.
Besides getting to hear the newest release by the critically-acclaimed New Pornographers in its entirety well before the release date (which is May 4 on Matador Records), this happiest of hour event will have 21+ drink specials (thanks PBR!) and a bucket of amazing giveaways such as pair of one-day tickets to Sasquatch for Monday 5/31 (the day the New Pornographers will take the stage) and various New Pornographers objects like posters, pretty pretty vinyl and the like.

The planets have aligned and have brought together the mightiest of Spelling Bees for a wonderful cause: to help fund the King and Snohomish County Regional Spelling Bee.
With the folding of the Seattle PI, so went the traditional funding for the Regional Spelling Bee. Now it's up to us, the former spelling nerds / current club goers and likely drinkers amongst us to put things back on track... to raise enough money so that lil Beatrice and Baxter can show off their Western Washington know it all "i before e" chops to the Scripps professionals! It is all going down at the Crocodile this Thursday 3/25.
Just a word to keep an eye on your iTunes podcast updates; Tonight, TBTL should be posting their first podcast episode (in a collectors-series) recorded their new studio (conveniently located in the home of host Luke Burbank), in all its post-KIRO A.D. glory.
How do you think it will start? Will they have any new segments? Will they still use that Ben Lee sample?
I know it's only been two weekend days since they sang "Don't Stop Believin'", but I've been looking forward to tonight's post all weekend. Best of luck to the TBTL team as they embark on this new chapter!
Were you all tuned to our favorite local talk radio show last night? If you were (or if you've already listened to the podcast of last night's show) you've heard the bad news: Too Beautiful To Live (TBTL) lived up to it's name... well, as far as KIRO is concerned.
As you can see by the 150+ comments on their open thread blog post for last night's show, you and I are not alone in our hardcore lovin of the Luke, Jen, and Sean and our sadness that they were "let go" by the police scanner-obsessed meanies at KIRO. The only bright part of all of this is that the show will live on in the podcast-iverse and we can follow along on the website www.TBTL.net (still pointing to their MyNorthwest.com page at the moment).
I do have faith that there are a bunch of other radio stations that are chomping at the bit to provide a home to TBTL, but at least in the meantime they've promised to continue on via podcast so we wont have severe withdrawl symptoms. I wonder if there's something we can do to show our support and help them move on to their next ruling TBTL stage? T-shirts or a bake sale?
How are you coping?
Imaginary Dana and I are beside ourselves with nervous, yet very giddy, excitment about getting to hang out with none other than Luke Burbank, Jen Andrews and Sean DeTore on the extremely funny and wonderful radio show Too Beautiful To Live (TBTL) - which you can easily find on the FM dial at 97.3 (KIRO) - TONIGHT at 9p.
If you are going to be at the theater tonight or otherwise away from radiowaves, TBTL is lightening quick at podcasting and a podcast of tonight's show should be available on iTunes (for free) tomorrow morning.
Listen in and comment on the evening's TBTL open thread with any comments you've got on whatever it is we'll be discussing... which might include something that is AwesomeNotAwesome, Bumbershoot, music, or aardvark -related.
Are there any questions we should ask *them* while we've got them fairly trapped in a fairly small room?
The Miniature Tigers were recently in town to play a TBTL-listener party at Azteca (on Eastlake). I jumped at the chance to have a few moments with a band that released one of my favorite albums of 2008 outside an authentic Mexican (chain) restaurant.
We talked about possibilities about songs they'd like to cover (they nailed "Mamma Mia" at the TBTL show), what is on their Summer 2009 Soundtrack and a couple other things.
Here's a video de neustros conversación:

if you couldn't tell by listening to our visit to the TBTL studios on Wednesday night (listen here to the 9p slot on 4/1/09), we are so utterly excited for the big Top of the Croc bash to commemorate the grandest of re-openings of the Crocodile tomorrow night (Saturday 4/4).
The butterflies are all tied up again today, because Liz and I just found out some very exciting news: On Wednesday night, imaginary liz and I will be special guests on Luke Burbank's amazing radio show, To Beautiful To Live (or TBTL, as the kids like to call it).
Latest comment by: ChrisB: "Back when I had a car, one of the preset stations I had was 97.3, because it was KBSG (the Oldies station in Seattle) and every hour or two they'd be good for a Little Richard song, but the last several times I went to the station there was no music but talk and kept ...
