Jesse Lortz and Kimberly Morrison of The Dutchess and The Duke sit down at Cafe Vita with threeimaginarygirls to discuss their new album, Sunrise/Sunset, their upcoming tour with Modest Mouse, and poop. Check out Block Party's youngest patron, seven week old Oscar Lortz!
The countdown to the Capitol Hill Block Party has begun! In less than a week tons and tons of the coolest bands will be taking one of three stages in the lovely (and likely warm) Pike Pine cooridor.
To prep, I've been perusing Flickr to see what I have in store. Here's a photo from the Sparkly Indie Pop Flickr Photo Pool of the Dutchess and the Duke who will be taking the Main Stage at 4.30p on Friday (July 24).
Thanks to Blush Photo for sharing with us!
Considering the window of weather for outdoor antics is pitifully small in Seattle, it seems we have learned to really pack the few months of sunshine with good times, great oldies and a bunch of great new bands as well. 12 years ago Capitol Hill Block Party began and next week you can take part in its revelry. With a particularly punk-rock lineup, what a good time it will be! With three stages and over 50 bands between July 24th and 25th, not to mention satellite parties to attend, you ‘d really have to strive to not have fun at Block Party. This year the headliners on the main stage are The Jesus Lizard on the main stage Friday night and Sonic Youth on Saturday.
Tickets are still available (but I can't imagine it wont sell out soon - so go get yours soon). And if you're headed there, note that the main entrance has moved to 12th and Pike which should make for a better traffic flow.
Dutchess and the Duke will be at The Showbox SoDo on Friday night February 20th and we're pleased as gory punch to have a pair of tickets to give away.
Latest comment by: imaginary liz: "Excellent point. Just updated the listing - it's in the LOUNGE part of SoDo - so both the Dutchess and the Duke will be approachable enough for pal-y flickr moments and belly shots. "
Upset. The word of the our 2008 Best Northwest Releases of 2008 Readers' Poll is upset.
With the Fleet Foxes winning readers and critical polls alike, who would've thought they wouldn't get top honors in our humble little Northwest poll? But they didn't -- they placed a distant second to New Faces, another debut record from some very talented, very young Northwest fellas.
We had other surprises as well, with unsigned newcomers such as Hey Marseilles, the Kindness Kind, and Kaylee Cole cracking the top ten, beating out Northwest heavyweights such as Death Cab for Cutie. We did not expect that. And we love it when you surprise us, dear readers.
We imaginaries like to champion the up-and-comers from the Northwest, and our results indicate that you do as well. We think you all also have fabulous taste, as always. Thanks to everyone who participated in our poll. We couldn't be more proud or thrilled to present the top 50 winners on your behalf...
