Mine eyes have seen the glory of the Imaginary Winter Holiday Spectacular poster

Imaginary Spectacular

It's hard to believe, but the Imaginary Winter Holiday Spectacular at Chop Suey on December 23rd is only one week away!

Today we are giddy to unveil the posters for the show! The Spectacular is *so* spectacular it has two color combos. The poster was designed by our friends at Admiration Society and lovingly screen-printed by Seattle Show Posters - who will make limited edition huge prints of the gray version of the poster (above) available for purchase at the show.

But, if you're more in the winning mood than the buying mood, everyone who comes through the door will be given a raffle ticket (extra tickets will be available for purchase with proceeds going to charity) with a chance to win a slew of amazing prizes donated by our generous sponsors:

The month of December sometimes gets a bad rap. For most, it's chock full of stress, mayhem and not-so-merry necessities. But don't go all glum on us, we've got a remedy: The Imaginary Winter Holiday Spectacular 2009!

Join us as we mark our fifth year spending the winter holidays imaginarily on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Chop Suey. Wallpaper at Bumbershoot 2009

It's no secret that Wallpaper is one of my favorite Pac NW bands. Thanks to Jeremiah Johnson for adding this vogue-ing photo taken during the band's Bumbershoot 2009 performance.

Not to be left out of *any* of the festival fun, Wallpaper will be at this weekend's Reverb Fest Salmon Bay Eagles venue at 5p (following Visqueen).

The Lonely Forest at Doe Bay

Bumbershoot takes place at the Seattle Center this September 5-7 and there's about a million and a half things to do (bands, literary panels, art shows, Flatstock, kettle corn lunches) over the three-day fest.

To help folks (especially ourselves) prepare for Bumbershoot 2009, we put together this lil mix of some of the things you should add to your Bumbershoot scheduling spreadsheet. We hope this helps you pick your must-sees or at least provides a soundtrack as you wander to and fro.

Bumbershoot preview: Wallpaper

When I heard Wallpaper for the first time, I immediately thought of a cross between The Kinks and Weezer (at least Weezer before Rivers Cuomo's likely lobotomy). The Auburn trio has a 1960s Brit rock sound with plenty of hooks while singing about minutiae like watching television. I was taken with their song "Pop Rocket" that sounds so simple: it's just guitar, bass and drums; verse, chorus, verse - but that's the point of pop music. It's hooks claw into you right away and the next thing you know, their album, On the Chewing Gum Ground, is in heavy rotation in your head.

Wallpaper is two brothers, Derek and Spencer Kelley and their friend Steven Potter. They form a power trio (bass, guitar, drums) and each play each instrument and each sing. Yet, it sounds surprisingly cohesive. They were reportedly signed to K Records after impressing Calvin Johnson after while sharing a bill with him.

Here's a video of Wallpaper playing "Pop Rocket" at the Comet:

Wallpaper plays in the EMP Sky Church at 6:15pm on Monday, September 7.

Noise for the Needy choice for Friday night: The Whore Moans, Speaker Speaker, Wallpaper and more...

Prepare to have your everything rocked every which way but with Clint Eastwood and an orangutan who plays the keytar.

Part of the Noise for the Needy benefit, this particular show features some of the coolest and noisiest bands in the Emerald City!

The show takes place Friday, 6/12 at the Underground Events Center at 2407 1st Ave (between Battery St & Wall St) in Belltown. It begins at 9PM, tickets are 10 US dollars, and it's 21 and up.

Best of 2008: Top Northwest Releases of 2008 TIG Editorial Picks

TIG staffers are a lot like you -- coming up with our list of faves for the year is a fun and gripping process. After comparing/contrasting/debating our individual favorites, we figured the sum of our imaginary parts would make for an interesting list.

While ChrisB and Keenan, among other things, brought in the power-pop elements,  Chris Estey stood by the smartie subtle elements of this year's Northwest offerings. Imaginary liz, as usual, loved the lo-fi and indie-pop songs, while imaginary dana spent much of the year obessed with Throw the the Statue and of course, the Fleet Foxes. And nearly all of us agreed that the Saturday Knights album was a force to be reckoned with. Here's our our staff votes tallied up...
