Tonight in Seattle:

Girls Rock

Recommended All-Ages Show: Girls Rock! at Neumos, Saturday {7/31}

Girls Rock! ShowcaseAwhile ago, I urged everyone with daughters to send them to the Girls Rock! 2010 Summer Camp, because it's the most awesome thing of all awesome things for girls to do. For one week, girls learn how to play instruments, sing, write songs, and then put on a kick-ass show!

This Saturday, July 31st at 1pm, this year's girls will get on stage at Neumos and blow you away with rockin' goodness. I've seen this show a few times, and it is completley AMAZING. There is nothing better than seeing a group of kids/pre-teens/teens work together and really have fun doing it.

Tickets are only $10 (in advance), and you can buy them online here to support future Girls Rock! camps. And why'll I'm at it, I'll plug the movie again, because it's also 100 kinds of awesome and everyone needs to see it:

Girl's Rock showcase at Vera this Saturday

Saturday afternoon at the Vera Project will feature a showcase for bands that were formed during the week prior during the Girl's Rock Camp. The camp starts on Monday and runs through the week and the show at Vera will be the culmination of the entire camp. The press release explains:

Girls Rock! Seattle will hold their first-ever showcase of camper bands at The Vera Project on July 25th. The showcase is at 3pm, and all ages with a $10 admission.

The Girls Rock! Seattle camper showcase concludes a week of rock n’ roll summer camp for girls ages 9-16. While the showcase is at The Vera Project on July 25th, camp takes place at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center July 20-24. During the course of one week, girls learn to sing or play guitar, bass or drums, they form bands and they write an original song together. The showcase is the culmination of a week’s worth of music-making, DIY workshops and confidence-building activities. It will undoubtedly be an emotional and entertaining event not to miss.
