BBC Radio 1 turns 40 with a lot of covers

Following up yesterday post about the Streets' covering "Your Song," I discovered that there are a whole pile of covers of classic songs by current acts on the Radio 1 Established 1967 compilation. Now, it is a mixed bag, but songs include:

  • The Fratellis covering "All Along the Watchtower"
  • Robbie Williams tackling the Kinks' "Lola"
  • The Klaxons do an inspired version of "No Diggity"
  • On the other hand, the Pigeon Detectives slaughter "Power of Love" (my personal favorite 80s pop song).
  • The Gossip take on "Careless Whisper"
  • On the bizarre side, Hard-Fi covers Brits' "Toxic"

Check out the full listing here. Of course, this will likely never get released in the US, but it's fun to see ...

Awesome - it's like the 00's version of Ruby Trax! I'd totally buy this if there were more than five tracks I really want to hear. Although that one Gossip track might be worth the price and shipping.

I am completely intrigued by the Gossip track as well. Beth Ditto sings George Michael??? My karaoke spirit yearns to hear this.
