Alright, so I have to admit. I kind of think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a big waste of time. Institutionalizing popular rock groups? Seems very anti-Rock and Roll to me, but I'm not in charge, so here we are, enshrining the "heroes of rock."
And who could be next? Well, this year none other than Madonna and the Beastie Boys, among others. The faux-British diva and the NYC trio have been nominated, along with John (Cougar) Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, Chic, the Dave Clark Five, and the Ventures. Odd group, needless to say.
Now, Madonna making it to the RNR HOF seems kind of nutty to me if we're talking rock and roll (if only it was Mandonna, not that I dislike Madonna - my vinyl copy of "Like a Prayer" proves that). But I guess that is the way of the future, so whatever. Truly, whatever.

Alright, I somewhat see how it's weird to allow Madonna in the rock and roll hall of fame. But perhaps because she's so amazing.. she breaks the genre barrier and should be recognized for her achievements everywhere!
The others.. eh, I don't care for. Madonna... if she came to Seattle, I'd be surprised if the tickets didn't sell within one day.

Actually, I really like the assortment of this induction -- though I don't care much about the R'N'R Hall of Fame, it's nice to see so many different types of music being honored this year. (Rap, moody doomed love songs, delectable pop-funk, 60s power pop, and uh, I actually really liked half of that album that had "Pink Houses" on it.)
I wouldn't challenge Madonna's nomination at all -- whatever you call it, rock or pop or whatever, "Like A Prayer" is just great music -- but I wonder how I'll feel down the line when the tacky 90s boy bands and Spears clones start getting talked about as "inspirational" and "legendary."

no no no no. Those tacky 90s bands and "spear clones" will NEVER be inspirational. I'm sure people will realize what is going on!
I wish I grew up in the jussi bjorling's time, beautiful artistry in their vocal technique.
MMM sexy!

The only reason why I still own three N*SYNC cds is because I'm too scared to exchange them at a pawn shop. However, now that I know that they might become legendary..... I'm still gonna keep 'em. invest.

DC5 and the Ventures should already be in the HOF.

Certainly Madonna is deserving of this honor. The term Rock and Roll is a broad one because the music is a combination of so many things. Pop is just short for popular. the Rolling Stones have dozens of hits on the pop charts, should they be excluded? I also think the idea for a Hall of Fame makes sense. We have them for sports and everything else and what music artists do is just as much a part of the culture as anything else.
