Weekend Plans? Heading out or heading South?
Submitted by imaginary liz on September 14, 2007.Friday is here and I'm soooo ready for the weekend. Sure the list is full of things to do, but a bunch of things to help me procrastinate.
For the outdoorsy indie rockers amongst us, you could roadtrip it to Mt. Hood for the 3900 Foot Festival. The festival starts today and lasts until Saturday night, will feature over 25 bands over two days on two different stages (which I think calculates to over 14 hours of indie music) with performances from Small Sails, The Shaky Hands, Loch Lomond, Hillstomp, Horse Feathers, The Crosswalks, Power of County, and The Builders and the Butchers. And a percentage of the proceeds will go to the Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum, which not only safeguards the history of Mt. Hood but also offers a variety of services to the small communities that satellite Mt. Hood.
Since I'll be staying local, I'm excited for the Punk Rock Flea Market at the Underground Events Center (it used to be the Downunder) tomorrow (Saturday). The market will be open from 10am and vendors will have vintage treasures, hip customized clothing, rad handcrafted household goods, and even local bands will provide a soundtrack for my shopping spree. Admission is only $1 and profits benefit Puget Sound's Low Income Housing Institute.
And then there's the shows! Personally, I'm heading south to Oly for the Bright Eyes show on Sunday (I can't wait to "Hot Knives" it up... not like that -- I mean with the video below!!!) -- but other shows this weekend include Friday's Tony Bennett show or the Stranger's Genius Awards (it's free and at the Seattle Central Library) and Saturday there's a AC Newman DJ set at Sonic Boom's Capitol Hill location.
What are you all up to? Want to get in the mood and watch some Bright Eyes with me to prep for Sunday's show? Look at Janet on those drums!!! I get all exclamation pointy at the sight!
