Ads, ads everywhere
Submitted by elle on August 27, 2007.The bounds of capitalism have no end, it seems. In a time when people are starting to complain about being bombarded by too many ads, there's a whole other slough of people... willing to wrap their cars with ads? That's right, according to this ad from the NY times, for up to $800 a month, companies will pay you to have their ad adhered to your car, just like you see on buses.
The deal comes with more than just a huge ad covering up your car. Willing drivers also have to agree to avoiding certain [see: competitors] businesses, refrain from smoking or eating competitors products in their vehicles, and many more restrictions on their life.
What do you think? A new car or $800 a month to be a mobile billboard?

I would totally do this... I think the only thing preventing me is the time suck of coordinating it all. Can someone email me about this so I can set it up? That's like an extra $9,600 a year. That's a lot of cds and popfest travel.

But can you choose which ads you want? Because if I got stuck with an ad for "The O'Reilly Factor" I would trash my own car.

I totally want to do this! My old beat up volvo is already three different colors...
Though, I suddenly get the feeling that instead of my car getting vandalized by ignorant conservative jerks (read: F*G on both sides, super classy), it'd probably get vandalized by liberal self-righteous jerks... maybe they'd paint my entire car one color, covering the ads. haha.

I recently had this conversation after having seen a car drive by in my hood that was completely branded with some dating site info. I was wondering how much the person in question got paid.
I don't think I would do this... but then, $800 is probably double the monthly car payment for the car I saw it on. I could imagine doing it if broke and in big bad need of a car for work/school. I wonder if the driver of that car had rules about how her hair and makeup had to look each time she got behind the wheel...?
