Glamour is the new Jane?
Submitted by imaginary char on August 24, 2007.If you follow the imagiblog, you know that Jane magazine closed shop last month. If you have (had) a subscription to Jane, you also now know your Jane has been swapped for Glamour. Ex Jane staffers—and some subscribers—are pissed:
FORMER Jane magazine staffers are livid that Conde Nast is sending their one-time readers copies of Glamour now that Jane has bitten the dust. "I want all the Jane readers to just cancel, rather than get Glamour," one ex-staffer griped. "I hope they call and say, 'I don't want this. Give me GQ, anything but this.' " Jane subscribers were informed by Conde Nast, "We think you'll love Glamour. Like Jane, it's packed with everything smart, sexy women want to know." But those who worked for Jane editrix Brandon Holley say, "Glamour is not at all like Jane . . . It's the exact opposite. They preach fake empowerment of 'loving your flaws.' Jane doesn't point out flaws. Glamour is still preaching that women aren't good enough." A Jane staffer who was once courted for a job at Glamour told us she "was asked for a list of 'Jane-type' story ideas, then told, 'we will then need to dumb them down for our readers.' " A rep for Glamour declined to comment on the subscription pitch, but told us, "We don't comment on why specific people don't get hired, but it's safe to say that with two National Magazine Awards in the past three years, we don't dumb down our content."
What do you think? Is Glamour a viable alternative to Jane?

OMG!
I used to subscribe to Jane but haven't gotten it since maaaaybe 2002. Recently I've been mysteriously receiving Glamour in the mail. At least now I have a possible explanation. I was all, "Ok, who played a joke on me by subscribing me to stupid fashion magazines?" Like that time in college when my roommate and I signed a guy friend down the hall up for a subscription to Tiger Beat or something.
Someone at the subscription service sure effed up.

I had a subscription to ElleGirl which seriously was the coolest magazine for little girls because it was ALL ABOUGT DIY. Then they cancelled entirely, and in its place... Cosmogirl?? Worst layout design EVER. It's not AS bad as Seventeen now (remember when 17 was cool?) but still... shitty publishers.
