Tonight in Seattle:

Monday morning check-in

What did you all do this weekend? Sure it was rainy in Seattle... but that didn't stop you from frolicking with Calvin Johnson to support organic farms or hanging out with John, Cheryl and the KEXP folk in the park did it?

I was out of town in the rain running between raindrops near the Hood Canal. And we listened to a lot of vinyl while hanging out in a garage... which made it kind of rock n roll.

I did hear stories about a cool Sean Nelson performance celebrating the Pike Place Market's 100th bday on Friday. If you missed that, he's playing tonight at the Crocodile with friends. Sounds like it should not be missed.

So... what did you do with yourself or with others?

I did lots of music over the weekend, but the one show worth noting was the Young Sportsmen CD release on Saturday. They rocked so hard, and I love the new record.

I see that Gary is being modest. I saw the Scheme on Friday night - and they rocked!

Then last night I saw Fountains of Wayne at Neumo's and that was the closest thing to a religious experience I could have.

Saw Pela for the first time, at the KEXP so-called BBQ.
Their set was excellent; Billy the guitarist/singer has an intense stage presence, and the band rocks hard and fast. Met the bassist Eric too which was an unexpected plus.

The Pike Place celebration was awesome on Friday! It started off pretty slow, with just a few dozen spectators, a marching band-type group on stage, and, later, a circus/ musical group. Then the street started to fill up and the rock n roll came on, and the Iconics treated us to some Hart and Presidents songs. It was good stuff.

The KEXP BBQ was excellent as well, except it made the Blakes go on stage first, just like Sasquatch did. The Blakes are way too good to be opening anymore. But it must have been a difficult decision to make, because the other bands pretty much rocked out just as hard. Fun day. Good veggie burgers, but long line. The guys at the beer booth were fantastic though - super quick!

No shows this weekend, spent it mainly celebrating with my brother 'cause he got into med school! Hurrah! But I did see Tegan & Sara last week (which was scarily crowded) and I've got the mighty Battles tomorrow.
