CMJ initial line-up announced; Betsy finally gets her festival excitement
Submitted by imaginary ash on August 9, 2007.You West Coasters get all the fun. That is, until autumn comes around and the CMJ Music Marathon takes place in NYC, assuring me a week of sleep deprivation and rock exhiliration. Below is the preliminary list, which probably only accounts for about 10% of the total number of bands that will be playing.
Not terribly excited with this early offering, but you know I'll be all over the Brunettes; and, if they're not trumped by other bands I want to see more, will also probably try for Spoon, Xiu Xiu, Eisley, Dan Deacon, and Deerhunter (though of course they'll all be playing sets at exactly the same time in venues far far away from one another, because that's just the way it is).
New York, NY – August 9, 2007 – CMJ Music Marathon today unveiled the first list of artists confirmed to perform during the 2007 festival, which will take place Tuesday, October 16 – Saturday, October 20 in New York City.
Artists confirmed to perform at the 27th annual CMJ Music Marathon so far are: Spoon, UNKLE, Justice, British Sea Power, Mates of State, Coheed and Cambria, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Xiu Xiu, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Dirtbombs, Mute Math, Jesu, Devin the Dude, The Ponys, Islands, Dan Deacon, Tiny Masters of Today, Eisley, Vietnam, Little Brother, Mickey Hart & Zakir Hussein, Brother Ali, Marnie Stern, No Age, Crystal Castles, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo, The Brunettes, 1990s, Ruins, A-Trak, Foreign Islands, Kavinsky, Simian Mobile Disco and Deerhunter.
CMJ will announce additional artists weekly. For an up-to-date list of artists currently scheduled to appear at CMJ 2007 please visit: http://www.cmj.com/marathon.
Any other imaginaries going? Shall we have an imaginary lunch one day?

Ah CMJ ... I will always remember it as the conference that convinced me to not pursue a career in radio. Don't get me wrong, the shows were great. Built to Spill and the Afghan Whigs, both at the Bowery, were two of the best shows I've ever seen, especially the Whigs. However, all the people I met drove me mad and convinced me that rocks, not rock, were the way to go.

Well, I must say that that preliminary line-up looks much better than our crappy official Bumbershoot line-up.

I see a t-shirt design in there somewhere....

Darling Elle, forgive me for saying so, but I may have to call the waaaaahmbulance on you. I mean, Menomena, Gogol Bordello, and Shake Some Action are enough to make me extremely jealous that I don't live somewhere where such festivals take place. Hopefully at least one of those three bands will make CMJ (I figure Gogol Bordello's already been there, done that, and Shake Some Action may not be able to make cross country trips right now, what with other big happenings...)
Love ya xoxo.

I wish I could be there, but alas, no. I wonder if Joe or Diana will be there, since they live in NY?
If so, an imaginary lunch date seems in order for sure!
