Tracy Thorn of Everything But the Girl fame just posted a Magnetic Fields cover {"Book of Love"} to her MySpace page. It is actually already released as a B-side to her Raise the Roof EP (which you can purchase via Itunes and then you'll be able to listen to it over and over for ever and ever).
I'm far from an EBTG fan, but the song sounds really great! Soothing and soft and just right for this Monday morning.

...what if there were a seattle/portland TIG-sponsored mag fields cover night? or rather, a stephin merritt cover night, so my band can learn "san diego zoo" and make my dreams come true? i think that would be terribly awfully lovely...

That is lovely.
La Thorn is having a great year!

Jordan -- we had a "69 Love Songs" tribute night in Seattle a couple years ago... it was AMAZING. Seriously one of the best nights of my life.
Maybe we should repeat it, and host it in PDX and Seattle??

yes, yes please, but limiting it to 69ls is kind of tricky...that record is like its own remarkable, unending universe, and there's so much to choose from and rework, and it's a great idea for a cover night...but opening it up to "stephin merritt night" would allow, at least for me, the chance to cover something like "san diego zoo" or "the village in the morning", or "i don't believe you", or any of the other amaaaaazing songs that guy has written in the last 10-15 years...it's just a thought. but, regardless, sign us up, we're there with bells on, we can smoke clove cigarettes and drink vermouth...

Or you could make a career of being blue?

i've been kissing my cigarettes and wishing it was you ... (that's totally the best stephin merritt lyric ever).

P4K posted a cover of "Yeah, Oh Yeah" by St. Vincent and John Vanderslice. They don't seem to like it and neither really do I - it doesn't hold a candle to Tullycraft's version from the TIG V-Day 69 Love Songs show (and what I would do to get a copy of the For Better or For Awesome's version of "Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side").

Erik - I think I may have the power to make dreams come true. Well kinda.
