And how about the non-CHBP shows this weekend?

In addition to two days at the Capitol Hill Block Party, I caught a set Saturday night at the Mars Bar (Shake Some Action, with the Lonely Forest and Andy Werth) -- not to mention some delicious mac and cheese and some fabulous conversation with my pal Sean from Tennis Pro.

How about all of you? Did any of you opt for one of the many non-CHBP shows this weekend? And you out-of-town readers: see anything spectacular this weekend?

Let's hear all about it...

Yesterday evening I caught the eagerly awaited return of Wesafari to the stage, with their first show in over a year, and their first ever with their new lineup.

They played an excellent set, but unfortunately it seems Chop Suey's "Sunday Summer BBQ" series (which amounts to an early show on a Sunday, with a grill out front on the street where you can buy sausages and sausage-shaped items) isn't really working out so well. There was not much of crowd to speak of, but those of us that were there were very happy indeed to be there.

This was sort of part of the capitol hill block party, but wasn't really advertised as such. The new Cha-Cha had music on Friday, the highlight of which was Truimph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death. They had a female bassist/sax player and it was perfect. I've seen them a few times in the last year or so and this was by far the best show of theirs I've seen. Also, Dan Galluci wasn't on drums like he usually is (he just flat wasn't there), I think Andrea Zolo was playing drums.

Was that Ms. Zollo who got up and sang with the Cave Singers at Neumos? It kinda looked like her, and the lineage of the band would make it seem likely that it WAS her, but I wasn't sure...

I will concur with Levi about the Chop Suey BBQ thing... I played that with Sonny and Blue Checkered Record Player before Wesafari... not such a great crowd. Maybe they need more publicity? Friendlier guys manning the bbq? Something Something? Maybe open up that front wall so it looks more like an outdoor cafe alla Elysian Fields.. *shrug*

I concur, Wesafari was good fun!! I admired their flexibility with instruments...they were trading instruments all over the place.

Oh..and I managed to get drunk and make a complete fool of myself with one of their bandmates.. nice work Saundrah.

What a Sunday!

Was in attendance as both an audience member and performer at Nada Mucho's Stones tribute night at the Tractor on Saturday. That turned out to be a great evening of music with some real kick ass bands. Really though, I think Downpilot turned in the best performance of the evening. Sway, yep that was a-maze-ing!
