A crush is supposed to hurt

I recently received a copy of Superstition by Siouxsie and the Banshees from Lala to replace my long lost cassette copy of the album and it got me thinking about my high school modern rock crushes... And here they are: my Top 5 high school Rock and Roll crushes (not exactly in order).

1. The aforementioned Siouxsie Sioux. She's foxy, and of course, I am a sucker for British rocker ladies. There's just something hypnotic about the way she moves.

2. Tanya Donelly. I met her once and really wasn't able to form a coherent sentence. I'm pretty sure I also walked into her at the Porter Square T station too. (And anyone who knows me from back then knows I have an ex that looks disturbingly like Tanya).

3. Miki Berenyi from Lush. Every time I think of her, I have to wave my fist to the sky and yell, "Damn you, Rivers Cuomo!"

4. Toni Halliday from Curve. I loved her in high school, met her in college. She didn't age that well, but damn, in this video she's still the seductress I remember.

5. Juliana Hatfield. What can I say, I'm from Boston.

Any crushes you want to admit to the crowd? It's kind of fun ...

Erik and I have exactly the same taste in indie rock women. I'm straight but I'd still probably make out with any of the above if given the opportunity. Though actually I might swap out Siouxsie Sioux for Johnette Napolitano.

I'd have to toss Lisa Loeb into that list. Something about those glasses...

My high school crushes would have to include:

Sufjan Stevens of course

Chris Walla (I like his style)

Someone from Asobi Seksu, but I don't remember his name. I saw him in Under the Radar and he was very handsome

And occassionally the keyboardist/singer from the Research

In order, they are:

1. Cyndi Lauper. This one lasted a LONG time. Like, maybe until now.

2. Annabella Lwin. I might still have this one, too.

3. Kira Roessler, latter bassist for Black Flag

4. Miki Berenyi, until that third Lush album. Then I was totally over her.

5. Kazu Makino / Blonde Redhead, for about five minutes.

6. Holly Ramos, from Fur. I'll bet you've never heard Fur, and I think that's a damn shame. Because they were REALLY good.

7. Arabella Harrison, from Jejune. I had / have a crush on her voice, but once I saw a picture of her, uh... she's not my type. But you should go listen to Jejune. right now. Really.

I know Harriet Wheeler was on my list for a while, as was Poly Styrene.

huge huge HUGE crush on Alex Band waayyyy back in the day. Freshman year, awkward phase, bored and misunderstood, staying up late, listening to the Calling.
