What do they mean, 'Never existed'?

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem were REAL!

Just to make sure there's not something you're missing, here's Wikipedia's list of fictional music groups. I can't believe Buckaroo Bonzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers didn't make Earvolution's list!

I would add Marvin Berry & the Starliners, but that's just because I'm obsessed with Back to the Future.

How did Blueshammer not make the list?

5

ALLALOMusic said on July 23, 2007:

I would strongly think of adding the "Venus In Furs" to that list of fictional bands.

But seriously, the Electric Mayhem should be #1.

But seriously, the Electric Mayhem deserve be #1 though, because they are the best.

I would argue that all of these bands are "real" -- they created songs and performed them, what more do you want?!

No Jem and the Holograms?! With all their 90-seconds-or-less hit singles in the mid-'80s?

9

Erik Gonzalez said on July 23, 2007:

And to go with Jem, where at the Misfits?

Or, more importantly, Josie & the Pussycats?!

Sean T. said on July 23, 2007:

The Partridge Family dominated the charts in the early 70’s, and outsold all of the bands on your list combined (x10). Does that count for anything?

Nick said on July 23, 2007:

what about Zit Remedy? No DeGrassi Jr High fans out there?

Tim Hanken said on July 23, 2007:

What about the Zack Attack?!?! That AC Slater sure could pound those skins, and we all know that if you've got a front man like Zack Morris you might even be able to give the Electric Mayhem a run for their money, no wait that's crazy talk.

For me, it's all about Jennie and the Mystery. They were my I-D-O-Ls. Back then I wanted to be Billie, but now I feel I relate much more with Mooch.

What about fictious bands that begat actual (albeit derrivative) bands? I hearby give you the Killers (courtesy of New Order):

Chris Weber said on July 24, 2007:

Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem are a great choice, but not the #1 choice for best imaginary bands, not even #1 imaginary Muppet band...

Not when The Riverbottom Nightmare Band waiting in the wings... Stealing the #1 spot from imaginary Muppet bands since 1979!

"we're the uh, we're the pinheads"

"i'm sorry, you're just too darn loud"

18

Erik Gonzalez said on July 24, 2007:

As much as I love Marty McFly, does a band that existed to play 1/4 of a song count? Anyway, the Pinheads are just Michael J. Fox pretending to play guitar while backed up by the News (minus Huey Lewis, who decided the Pinheads are just too darn loud).

The Banana Splits!

Now, technically Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club Band could be on this list, couldn't they? haha. And wasn't the Bonzo Dog Band technically pretending to be called Death Cab for Cutie in the Magical Mystery Tour? I know it was a real song on one of their albums, but I could've sworn DCFC was on the drummer's kick drum in the film... hmm.

what? no WONDERS! first they were the one-ders, then the wonders... remember?!? they had the top fictional hit "That Thing You Do"-- now that was a damned swell tune they had there... and that hair! whoop-de-doo! (no pun intended)

my vote for best fictional band. they were twee... they were pop... they were sugary... and had movie star looks!

2nd vote would be Milli Vanilli.

I don't think it counts as a band, but Fraggle Rock sure did sing a lot. I liked them :]

Heres what Wiki said:

The Theme song from Fraggle Rock was a top 40 pop hit in Britain during the phenomenon.
