"Sway" by Dean Martin

Before I get into today's Roulette Spin I have to get a couple things off my chest.

(1) Michael Bay's Transformers, although not truly a travesty, was still offensive to any true fan of giant robots. Mostly because there was far too much human crap and not enough robots. (If you'd like a list of all the nit-picky nerd-like things I hated because they didn't fit into the Transformers lexicon, feel free to email me. I'll take Orson Welles as Omicron any day of the week over Shia LaBeouf.)

(2) I couldn't give a rat's arse about Harry Potter. Sorry, I'm just saying. I've reached maximum Potter-saturation and the next wizard I see will get my full wrath.

Anyway, back to the task at hand. Today's song is, luckily, from a movie I did enjoy, that being 2001's Sexy Beast. It was a bizarre little flick with Sir Ben Kingsley playing a decidedly non-Gandhi role and featured some great music by, among others, Dean Martin (today's spin), The Stranglers, South, and UNKLE. "Sway" is a great little sultry Martin number. Martin always seemed like a sleazier version of Frank Sinatra, which takes a lot because Sinatra was pretty slimy when it comes down to it. However, there is something infectious about anything by Martin, Sinatra, or their ilk -- even years afterwards, they seem like the coolest people to ever live. Heck, I can't help but be in awe when I put my Dean Martin four-record set I got at Goodwill on and listen to him sing the classics. "Sway" is just another brilliant love-song, with a gentle Spanish feel and Martin's sweet-as-sugar and thick-as-syrup vocals. Absolutely genius and absolutely cool.
