Tonight in Seattle:

Mid year check in: what are your favorite releases so far for 2007?

We're just past the halfway mark for 2007... so let's have the preliminary speculation begin!

What are your favorite records of the year, thus far? Any records you're particularly looking forward to in the coming months? Any records that were a big bad disappointment?

Do share.

{I've been trapped in a TEN hour week meeting today. Please humor me with your pithy replies! ;)}

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but here are the albums that I have liked best, meaning listened to the most, so far (in no particular order)

LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver
Yacht I Believe in You. Your Magic is Real
Patrick Wolf The Magic Position
Maximo Park Our Earthly Pleasures
Dizzee Rascal Maths + English
Busdriver Roadkill Overcoat
Jarvis Cocker Jarvis
Palomar All Things, Forests
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists Living with the Living
Long Blondes Someone to Drive You Home

Three that are cheating (because they're not out yet):
Jose Gonzalez In Our Nature
Architecture in Helsinki Places Like This
Stereo Total Paris-Berlin

I knew you'd be the first one to reply to this thread, Erik... ;)

I'd have to say:

Aqueduct: Or Give Me Death
Menomena: Friend and Foe
LCD Soundsystem: Sound of Silver
Elliott Smith: New Moon
BOAT: Lets Drag Our Feet!

I'm holding my breath for:
The New Pornographers
Tegan and Sara
Architecture in Helsinki

The Eames Era is my favorite. Tied for not first: Of Montreal, Sleeping In The Aviary and Los Campesinos!

Anticipating: Murder Beach, AiH, being the last one to hear Junior Senior's Hey Hey My My Yo Yo.

Oh oh I second the Eames Era, I can't believe I forgot them :]

That I've listened to the very most:
LCD Soundsystem,
Sleeping in the Aviary,

and yes...
Modest Mouse.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many (other) Sleeping in the Aviary fans out there in imaginary land!

the new spoon and interpol that came out the other day are amazing

this list is wildly variable, but if the year ended tomorrow, my favorites are as follows:

shearwater- palo santo[the reissue/do-over].
tiny vipers- hands across the void.
of montreal- hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?
the veils- nux vomica.
the national- boxer.
el-p- i'll sleep when you're dead.

Everyone knows how stoked I was about White Stripe's Icky Thump. And, duh, I'm a TIGger, so I have to be on the Winehouse train.

To throw a kink in the blogosphere hose, though, what have you been listening to that remind you it's summer?

For me:

Big Brother and the Holding Company (featuring the one and only Janis Joplin) "Cheap Thrills" which I pull out of the bin every summer.

And I've recently reconnected with the brilliance of New Order.

What "summer" music have you guys been listenin' to?

Well, I'm from Sleeping In The Aviary's hometown of Madison. But I didn't buy the CD until I read your review. From Seattle. How embarrassing.

I think the Labrador collection makes a perfect summer soundtrack.

A Hawk And A Hacksaw And The Hun Hangár Ensemble-s/t

Eluvium-Copia

Grails-Burning Off Impurities

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists-Living with the Living

Of Montreal-Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

Hala Strana-Heave the Gambrel Roof

The National-Boxer

***Anticipation*** Okkervil River—The Stage Names

Oh wow! Michael, I'm so glad you love the Sleeping in the Aviary CD! They're pretty great alright.

I second the advanced nomination for Okkervil River!! DELISH!

My favorites thus far are:

Lily Allen - Alright, Still...
The Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Baby 81
Kelly Clarkson - My December
Client - Heartland
Fountains of Wayne - Traffic and Weather

The Pipettes - We Are the Pipettes
Sally Shapiro - Disco Romance
Marnie Stern - In Advance of the Broken Arm
Mary Timony Band - The Shapes We Make
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

I've yet to get the new Spoon, TMBG, or Interpol records and I'm also anticipating the New Pornographers, Northern State, and Junior Senior records and holding my breath for Annie's.

The Clientele
A Sunny Day In Glasgow
The Shout Out Louds
BOAT
Sodastream
Loney, Dear
Panda Bear
Good Shoes
Walker Kong
Cats on Fire
Feist
New Pornographers

You know I just can't get into the Pipettes :\

I can't believe this got all the way down to 18 with out anybody listing Menomena's Friend and Foe. Also on my list are:
Digitalism- Idealism
!!!- Myth Takes (I'm pretty much over this now but for a while there I listened to this all the time.)
Arcade Fire-Neon Bible
Kings of Leon-Because of the Times. Yes that's right I said it and I'm not ashamed of it.
