Ryan Adams was popular, a week ago

I realized I didn't take a look at last week's Billboard Album charts, so I wandered over to the site to look at this week's version. Nothing horribly thrilling really, T.I. debuted at #1, followed by the odd Disney-sponsored Hannah Montana 2 Soundtrack. I seem to remember catching of clip of Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana) on TV and it seems like she's what all the parents wish Britney Spears could have remained. We'll see if Miley ends up beating photogs with umbrellas.

Velvet Revolver, you know, Stone N' Roses, made it in at #5 while the White Stripes are still in the top 10 after three weeks, which is pretty darn good, especially considering the next artist. That artist is Ryan Adams. This week he sits at #31, but last week his new album debuted at #7! Yes, a top 10 hit for Ryan Adams. Easy Tiger becomes Ryan's best performing album ever and has him nearly on the same level as Bryan Adams, which you know is all to which Ryan aspires. I'm just curious if we'll see Interpol at #1 next week ...

I looked at the list this morning, too. What I found the most interesting was that Kelly Clarkson's CD My December was number 3 (and 2 last week). It seems to be doing really well, although the label has done just about everything to sabotage it (with Clive Davis not being shy about saying he thinks it sucks) and her tour getting cancelled before the album dropped.

The wife and I went to see a Ben Folds/Ryan Adams show a few weeks ago. Ben has true talent; Ryan had 10,000 screaming, swaying, Abercrombie wearing, rich parent funding their coke habit, SUV driving pre-pubescent teen fans. We left midway through Ryan's 2nd song (though we really just went to see Ben Folds anyway).

I've never really understood the Ryan Adams appeal. I was amused by his cover of "Wonderwall," but that's about it.

I loved "Summer of '69" though.

Ryan Adams I think just isn't understood by a lot of people. His fans are primarily leftovers from Whiskeytown and Heartbreaker. I'm a nut for him--I recognize he's not for everyone, very much an aquired I've-been-listening-to-him-forever kind of guy. A lot of people hate Dylan (not to say he's Dylan) but he's more prolific. He and Conor Oberst are sort of a yin-yanfg

Your characterization is a little hyperbolic, too, although it explains why you chose "bloodfist" as a username:

"Ryan had 10,000 screaming, swaying, Abercrombie wearing, rich parent funding their coke habit, SUV driving pre-pubescent teen fans."

I mean, really. Coke using preteens who drive? What state were you in? I don't give your opinion a lot of credit when you clearly don't think through what you write.

Ha!

I can tell you I gave "Bloodfist" his handle (it's funny if you know him), and he is in Texas, so anything is possible.

Let's play nice now.

I had a feeling Joe would jump in. Those anti-Ryan words are fightin' ones for him...

Oh boy... now I've done it.

I read Ryan Adams, but thought John Mayer.

I hereby retract all previous statements about Ryan Adams, effective immediately. My apologies!

And the worst part is I actually do like Ryan Adams - his album 'Gold' is wonderful. It's on my iPod. John Mayer, however... well, not so much. Pansy.

Sorry all - I'll run back upstairs to the peanut gallery now. Joe - do you have it in your heart to forgive me? And by the way - if you saw the crowd, you'd understand that my description was actually pretty accurate. Houston, to be specific. Anything is possible here.

OMG bloodfist, you just made me crack up outloud in the middle of a long, dayjob work conference. I think I smothered it before I attracted too much attention.

That is hilarious.

Ha... thanks. A friend of mine almost made me spit my soda all over my monitors yesterday at work, so I figured I needed to spread the love a little bit.

I knew something was strange about the Ryan Adams thing, but I was too lazy to double check. It's been a long day... *sigh*

Haha! Yes! I hate John Mayer too!

Bloodfist, we should be friends.

John Mayer can totally suck it back and forth.

Joe-

Can we listen to Ryan Adams I mean John Mayer I mean Ryan Adams together?

I like that BF can stand for Best Friend or bloodfist.

bloodfist said on July 13, 2007:

Isn't it BFF? Best Friends Forever? BloodFist Forever?

I like 'Bloodfist Forever.' It has a Chuck Norris feel to it.

imaginary dana said on July 13, 2007:

Well dude -- I think they're both right. It's BF if you're saying "best friend" and it's BFF if you're saying "best friends forever."

Unless the etiquette has changed and I didn't get the memo...
