New releases for the week, from Easy Street Records
Submitted by Jflores on June 25, 2007.I have a long standing love/hate with Ryan Adams. I totally side with Catlin Carey on the Whiskeytown breakup. I HATED Rock and Roll, but Heartbreaker broke my heart in the best way and remains one of my favorite records of all time. So far I am pretty please with Easy Tiger although the track "Halloweenhead" gives me acid reflux. All in all I think this is his best work in YEARS and the fact that his digital watch read 4:20 on the cover is pretty HILARIOUS.
Nick Lowe has let me down. The title says it all I guess... sad.
Pharoahe Monch, hip hops next medium deal?!? You tell me.
Here's the list of exciting new releases for Tuesday June 26th:
Ryan Adams, Easy Tiger
Bad Brains, Build a Nation
Beastie Boys, The Mix Up
Johnny Cash, Lowdown
Chemical Brothers, Do It Again
Kelly Clarkson, My December
Steve Forbert, Strange Names & New Sensations
Nick Lowe, At My Age
Metric, Grow Up And Blow Away
Gary Numan, Complete Peel Sessions
Pearl Jam, Live At The Gorge (7 CD set)
Pharoahe Monch, Desire
Kelly Willis, Translated from Love

Reading that list, I think:
1) I can't believe Joe hasn't already freaked out to us about the Ryan Adams.
2) SEVEN Pearl Jam discs?!?!?!? Is that really necessary??

I'm not sure if one more Pearl Jam record is necessary, let alone 7(!) - and I say that as someone who will be buying *My December* tomorrow afternoon.

I spent $50 to see Pearl Jam at the Gorge. I sat on the lawn amid hundreds of drunken frat boys and squinted trying to see anything on the stage, as there were no projection screens. I'll be at Easy Street tonight at midnight so I can get this 7 disc extravaganza and re-live that experience. NOT.

So Metric's [re-]releasing "Grow Up and Blow Away"? I thought they were going to keep it buried because they'd grown past that sound or some schtup like that. I happen to really love it, esp. "Soft Rock Star" and "Rock Me Now." It's just strange to hear it's being "released" now after I've had these songs for like four years. I wonder if anything's different.
In any case, it's Betsy recommended!

I've had the Ryan disc for a while.
It's another Ryan Adams album. It's not the greatest one, but it's another good one. ABout on par with Jacksonville City Nights.
THe more exciting thing to focus on is that there's a box set of unreleased albums coming out at Christmas. Yes, unreleased ALBUMS. Like, 3 or 4.
