Hey live music fans -- what shows did you catch this weekend?
Did anyone make it to the Ms. Led CD release show at the Sunset Friday night? What about Feist and Grizzly Bear at the Moore? Or Slender Means and Whalebones at the Tractor? Any readers from outside of Seattle see an exciting band they'd like to share with the rest of the class?
Do tell, imaginary friends, do tell...

I saw no shows this weekend :\ However I did go to the KEXP Volunteer Appriciation party which was amazing. I got 15 free CDs, a free t-shirt, and a gift certificate. John in the Morning signed my shoe, we played guitar hero and the mixed tape swap was so exciting. And I saw Keenan from Patience Please there! Weird :]

Whoa - 15 CDs! Do they have some kind of deal with Columbia House or BMG Music Service?
Oh, and I saw a good play (Uncle Vanya, reviewed today) and a better movie (Michael Moore's Sicko, which I'll review later this week).

Damn, 15? That beats the 8 I got. To be fair most of my cds are single track promos, which isn't very cool, damn student radio! What is cool is that I saw Jeffrey Lewis on Friday and he very kindly drew stuff for a friend of my mine who's having surgery on his hand in a couple of days. Hooray for nice NYC anti-folk types!
Good to hear that Sicko is receiving the imaginary thumbs up.

I caught Dan Deacon at a house party! Holy crap! I'm writing about it on the KEXP Blog! I wish I had seen Ms. Led too, but I did catch them earlier that morning. Their new album rocks!

I spent both Friday and Saturday nights at the Mars Bar. Friday night was Model Photographer, The Scheme and M Bison. Saturday night was Young Sportsmen, The Box Social and Speaker Speaker.
Quality nights of music, both.

I can't believe anyone found 15 CDs worth taking in that batch! I did get four that I'm stoked about, though. Most of it seemed to be rejects from the KEXP inbox, along with some that they perhaps received multiple copies of (at least I hope so, as the ones I got really ought to be in the library). And yeah, loads of CD singles. As my friend put it: "I would pay extra not to have a CD with one song on it."
I left wondering who got my mix . . . I don't know if I'll ever find out!
Saturday I stopped by the Hollow Earth Radio house show, which was super-rad. I saw a bit of Cabinet of Natural Curiosities' set, and most of Ryan from the Pica Beats' solo set. I also ate a veggie dog and drank a delicious root beer. Yay for house shows!

I caught Shorthand For Epic and Ms. Led at the Sunset on Friday. Kick ass. Ms. Led pulled up Jen Wood, Bre Laughlin (sp?) and a couple others to do back-up vocals on a couple songs.
It was packed. People were dancing. Great show.

I was at the Ms. Led show on Friday night as well. It was packed and lots of fun, and Oh.My.Gawd.Becky. I have seen Ms. Led dozens of times, but never better than Friday night.
I was planning on seeing Marnie Stern on Saturday night, who regular readers of this site know I love dearly, but I got in a minor car accident on Saturday morning and opted for drinking heavily with my friends instead (and taking the bus to and from the bars).

VISQUEEN IN GEORGETOWN!
Rachel and the boys (+ an extra mystery drummer) Rocked the street as part of Seattle Weekly's "ARTOPIA"! There were three stages with great music everywhere, but VISQUEEN was the icing on a 4 layer red velvet cake!

Levi- I am not sure at all that my 15 cds are of quality haha. I judged most of them based on cover art, perhaps not the best screening system.
I wish I knew who got my mixed tape! I think it was grabbed by a bike messanger in a bright blue shirt, but I didn't see him all night after that

I saw Smashing Pumpkins play their first US show in 7 years in a 900-capacity venue in Asheville, NC Saturday night. And then i saw them play their 2nd show Sunday night.
Then I drove back. In the past 24 hours I've been in 7 states and I'm sitting at work hating myself.
THe Pumpkins are amazing.

I was also at this magical kexp party, and didn't bother looking through the masses of free cds. I was fortunate (and curious) enough to see who got my mix, and my first question was "do you like pop music?", and when he answered yes, I told him he'd picked the right mix (it must have been my packaging made with japanese stationary). I ended up with Kevin Cole's weird soul remix mix. It was a pleasure to see you, Kiku!
