Tonight's Recommended Show: Dinosaur Jr. at the Showbox
Submitted by imaginary liz on May 18, 2007.How often does an old legend return to the fold and sound as fresh as ever? Not often enough we say (insert name of your Great Band/Bad Album favorite here).
Dinosaur Jr. and their freshly released album have, surprisingly, been met with raves from critics and bloggers alike - and word on the interweb has it that their live show does not disappoint. The band has been focusing on their early catalog (which makes the most of having Lou Barlow on board) and they've been kicking it live with the great indie rock songs they're known for without relying on nostalgia.
A night at the Showbox with J. Mascis and Lou Barlow and a guy that might resemble a sweaty Michael Chiklis? Not bad at all.

I'm just excited to see that J Mascis has come back as Gandalf the White (http://www.terapija.net/fotke/portret/20060514_223349_3.jpg)

MY GOD! That show was so very very good. My ears are still ringing a bit, and I'm very hung over, but it was well worth it. Being an old codger, every other song brought back fond memories of the glory days (read: college). Jay and the boys sound just as vital and just plain rocking as ever... even if Jay looked like he stepped out of the Lord of The Rings.

Did anyone else see this band at the Central Tavern back in the day? Was it the ‘Bug’ tour? To date, that was the loudest show I’ve ever attended. Did I just date myself?
