Americans: a little stupider than before
Submitted by imaginary dana on April 16, 2007.The latest Pew Research Center for the People & the Press study of over 1,500 Americans has found that we're slightly stupider than we used to be. Some interesting tidbits:
- Only 69% of Americans knew Dick Cheney was the Vice President (down from 1989, when 74% of Americans knew Dan Quayle was the Veep).
- Americans who regularly watched Comedy Central's The Daily Show and Colbert Report were the smartest.
- Americans who regularly watched Fox News were nearly the dumbest.
Also from the article:
"Democrats and Republicans were about equally represented in the most knowledgeable group but there were more Republicans in the least aware group."

As a Democrat, it's hard to discuss this study with Republicans and not sound condescending. Anyone have any tips?
I guess we could have guessed these would be the stats given the star power behind each side:
Democrat: Bruce Springsteen, Ben Gibbard, Conor Oberst, Melissa Etheridge, and a ton more...
Republican: Kid Rock, Britney Spears
