Is this the outcome of the indierock version of schmoozing or networking?
7 imaginary dana said on April 10, 2007
I think it's the indie-rock version of Playing Hard to Get.

That was playing hard to get? That must mean I'm a prude becuase I wait until after the second round of drinks to put out.
9 imaginary dana said on April 10, 2007
Well -- since Mat Brooke has played so hard to get with Carissa's Wierd and then Band of Horses, now people clamoring to get into his indie-rock panties... I mean, records.

What's the difference of playing hard to get and hype?
11 imaginary dana said on April 10, 2007
You can get hype by playing hard to get... but you can't get hard from hype?
Was that a rhetorical question?

Considering GRAND ARCHIVES are the opening act on the current Modest Mouse tour it was kind of a no-brainer on Sub Pop's part. With exposure like that they are sure to sell a few cds. Musically, they sound like the same old bland bands that Sub Pop has been pushing on the public for the last few years. Hell, if they can trick us into thinking that last Shins album wasn't a total waste of time, I guess they can sell us just about anything.

this whole cinderella story of GA getting signed on the basis of one show to sub pop seems outlandish to me. because of band of horses, doesn't sub pop contractually have a first look/option to sign any work done by mat brooke? and i saw the show they were supposedly signed on. i don't mean to talk shit but it was really bad. they've greatly improved but i remember thinking their recorded songs were way better than seeing their out of tune, nearly painful to listen to harmonies live. they seem like good guys, i wish them success. but i have a hard time swallowing the bullshit story surrounding their signing.
