Sending out an S.O.S.
Submitted by Erik Gonzalez on April 10, 2007.Depending on if you believe the New York Daily News as a news source, the word on the street in the Big Apple is that the new Police album is so bad, no label wants to release it.
On one hand, I find it hard to believe that no matter how bad it is, no label would think they wouldn't make money off of it. Heck, the new Stooges album is terrible, but it still got released. However, when you think about Sting for the last, oh, 20 years, you might begin to worry about what a new Police might sound like — maybe a few too many Jaguars for Sting these days.

Considering the source can't even get its classic song titles right ('Message in the Bottle'?), I'm very skeptical indeed.

I can't believe that anyone is suprised the new Police songs suck. Since when has a reunion record EVER been a good thing? The only thing good about a reunion tour is that it gets stuck-in-the-mud parents out of the house so that their teenagers can raid the liquor cabinet.

That's not the *only* good thing. It also makes Best Buy a shit-ton of money (not to mention, bulks up ranks in their stupid "subscriber" base). The day I sign up for a Best Buy list to find out about my favorite shows will be a very, very sad day.

Hahaha. Good point, Levi.
I also read rumors of a new Police record in the works on Aversion yesterday. Definitely more reputable, though I'm still skeptical.
With so much new music, who has time for the relic rock?

Thats a good question. Can anyone name a truly good reunion record? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Mission of Burma's offONoff, but thats more of a comeback than a reunion record.
Now, what will happen when that so-called new Pixies album comes out? Ack!

What's going to happen? The worth of my Pixies vinyl is going to plummet. Or I'm going to have to stop listening to KEXP.

I have to think that regardless of how bad The Police album is that there is still money to be made off of it. There are countless morons out there make believing they're in high school again and paying top dollar to see these 3 churn out the oldies waaay past their prime. I'm sure a large percentage of these same folks would stop by the merch table on their way out of the arena to buy a crappy new Police cd for the car trip home. Hell, Sting has been releasing awful albums for decades and people have been buying them!

Step away from the lute, Sting! STEP AWAY FROM THE LUTE!!
