Sleepy Eyes of Death
photos by Amelia Gydé
Although I was only able to catch four songs, that was enough to give me a good impression of Sleepy Eyes of Death. Their electronic music is reminiscent of the soundtracks from late 80’s sci-fi movies like Buckaroo Bonzai, Big Trouble in Little China, and even one of my favorites: Robotech. Think of M83’s “Car Chase Terror” from Before the Dawn Heals Us and you're getting the idea.
Synth over quick rolling bass-lines created an intense feeling of an on-coming chase scene that was only enhanced by addition of a fog machine, stage-front red lights, and the occasional strobe.

All you missed after those 4 songs was a well warrented instrument throwing hissy fit. The sound man was clashing with them from the start and they were cut off after only fifteen minutes of playing. but a rad 15 minutes it was

yeah, everyone around me was pissed b/c they only played 15 minutes but as a former stage manager at a big club i expected just that. at least the band coulda said something. you're right though...i can't wait to see them play a proper show.

What CAN they say? You don't want to trash a venue and get a reputation for being difficult! I've got it from a good source that the sound man was unprepared, incompetent, and lazy and threw off months of the band's planning by putting it off all prep until the last second. How can a band trash the very person they need to pull the show off?
