Sounds LikeIf You Want It:

"Incorporating their influences of pop rock groups from the sixties to the present, Seattle’s powerpop darlings Young Sportsmen have universally culled together the characteristics of their heroes from The Who to XTC to Cheap Trick on their second full-length release, If You Want It"
-Three Imaginary Girls

" . . . under the guidance of producer Johnny Sangster, they’ve taken their trademark power and added more depth, more shading and more texture. The results are completely effective at both the highest highs and the slowest burns."
- KEXP Audioasis blog

"An excellent record from Young Sportsmen, brimming with sharp songwriting, well-crafted arrangements and inspired performances, all superbly captured by producer Johnny Sangster. Like its predecessor, this is immediately appealing power pop with all the requisite energy, volume, hooks, harmonies and melodies . . ."
- Seattle Powerpop Blog

""As if I wasn't already impressed enough with this band (it took one EP to determine that they were easily one of the best bands to come out of Seattle this decade), the level of depth this record shows knocked me back even further!"
- Indiepages.com

Death To Palaces:

"...nearly flawless in its execution of truly powerful pop. If you don't have it yet you're really missing out."
-Gary Miller, Seattle Powerpop Blog

"...three minutes listening to the power pop of The Young Sportsmen may be the best three minutes of your day. If there's a better power pop band in 2007 (not named Sloan, of course), I haven't heard them."
-I Rock Cleveland

"To put it bluntly, this is a great record by a great band and I can only see them getting better and better. It's easily one of my favorites of 2007."
- Chris B., Three Imaginary Girls

The Familiar Glow of Colliding Particles :

". . . The quartet's keen power pop summons the spirit of classics acts like Cheap Trick and Elvis Costello, but their modern attitude and harmonies also recall more current artists like Ted Leo and the Pharmacists."
- Megan Seling, The Stranger

"Young Sportsmen have released five shattering, pumping, bass-run, drum-pounding, air-guitar shredding power-post-punk-pop songs.....There's something truly exceptional about the energy on this mini-album..."
- Three Imaginary Girls

"Easily one of the best local bands I've heard in ages . . . I can hear hints of Superdrag, Sloan and the New Pornographers in each of these five extremely catchy songs, which range from excellent to stunning."

I have a crazy idea. Get someone to record the last show on Friday and post it somewhere for those of us out of state fans who can't make it up there to see you. Just a thought...

I'm SO bummed after getting the email today about you guys calling it quits. I've been a HUGE fan, sharing your music with anyone who'll listen, since seeing Muzzle open for Throwing Muses in 1995. I'm trying to pull off a road trip from Northern California for the Sunset Tavern show and hoping like hell that I can make it!

What is this "last show" madness I keep reading about? That's nuts! I wish I could be there to send you off. Rock for me.

Dudes,

I'm sitting here listening to Mr. Lonesome, and I've realized that it's the best song that Elliot Smith never wrote. Fabulous tune, and I love the "musical alliteration" with the "Mr. Rhodes" lyric going along with the Fender Rhodes. Nicely done. You guys are awesome.
