Little Treasures

Now that we've been home for a few days, I've determined I want to post little nuggets and news frequently. I've started to spend some time listening to music again and the sentimental bone in my body started to yearn for some old time favorites.  Bittersweet and beautiful pop bliss this is but I still get lumps in my throat listening to So Said Kay by the Field Mice. All it is are two chords (C and Amin, the simplest of all chords) and a beautiful and haunting melody, maybe it's the lyrics that bring me to my dearest sentiments or everything about the song that I can't seem to get enough of.

Home Sweet Home

New York City

After being on the road for the last two months one thing I realize is that I'm definitely a city girl.  The charm of quaint  little craftsman bungalow houses in Denver or the cute coffee shop in Akron are comforting in some ways but still pale in comparison to the vibrant streets of New York and the vintage cobblestoned streets of Boston. Spending a week in New York, there was so much to walk through and see, it was impossible to be home before 4am and more impossible to not to run into someone you knew on the street since walking is a must in New York.  And during CMJ week, you run into bands you've played with left and right, they're everywhere.  I was on constant people patrol, watching all the different characters pass me by amused and curious what brought them to New York.  By sheer coincidence my friend Ronnie was in town for a Killers show and we spent one evening having a  listening party with Brandon and Ronnie, Dave, and myself. The new Killers album is magically fantasic, there's some dark, some epic, and some venerable beauty in it, not to mention I want to dance to it, fancy that.  You can grab a cab from anywhere at all and you can grab a slice from anywhere at all, so awesome.  And then coming home to San Francisco, crossing the Bay Bridge, seeing the city lights, wow.
Now that the album is finished, the next couple months will be intimate ones.  We're planning to record a few cover songs we've always wanted to do, that I've sorta played in my bedroom for fun but it's a good time to share them with you and I'll post the track listing once we finish recording them.

One month on the road...

It's been almost one month on the road and we find ourselves in Norfolk, VA enjoying beautiful weather and being next to the beach, literally in front of us.  The show was joyous, we met so many new people and I also learned that the correct way to say Norfolk is Nawfuk.  What a cool venue the Boot is, gourmet restaurant by day serving up all sorts of gourmet dishes using veggies that are local to Virginia and in season, and kick ass rock venue by night.
One thing I've learned from visiting so many cities, is that there are an abundance of cities I never would have thought twice about that are really charming, brimming with culture, and full of great people.  Lincoln, Des Moines, Memphis, Atlanta, Norfolk, to name a few.  Now we are finally far far east and the weather is cooling down, leaves are starting to change, and pears are in season.  We could use a haircut or two, and my right arm is discolored with freshly red mosquito bites, but other than that, we are all safe and sound here, so far from home.   Tomorrow, we head for Washington, DC where my good friend lives and she's promised to make us a healthy meal for dinner.  Oh happy day!
