Tonight in Seattle:

4 Zero Records

Mushroom — I Don't Remember Yesterday. Today It Rained.

Newly relocated bohemian bard-of-rhythm now-Seattleite (by way of San Fran, natch), Mushroom bandleader & drummer Pat Thomas records every show his delightfully slinky, glistening jazz-rock (mostly instrumental) band cooks up. They've been around in various formations since 1997, and like-minded lysergic London-based label 4 Zero is more than happy to put out his extremely tight on the bottom and horn-tasty all over the top LP length live music confections. This volume, subtitled Recorded Live At The Tip Top Inn, San Francisco, March 1st 2000 wasperfectly mastered by legendary Seattle-area producer and musician Steve Fisk. (It features gorgeous cover art by Pliny Stevens as well.)

I don't remember yesterday. Today it rained is bringing the freak to the folk-rock scene here, being more an album that Wilco would have bought a decade ago to rip off ideas than sounding like a band that wants to look cool in thrift store work clothes but still get big buck prime time airplay. Thus I'm following Mimi's lead the other day with her love for Thurston's recent solo album by frothing up my love for this set. That's right, TIG kids: Skronk and soda is the new stew.
