Tonight in Seattle:

"Heart and Soul" by Huey Lewis and the News

Huey Lewis and the News — "Heart and Soul"

Wo-oh!

So what. I like Huey Lewis and the News. So do you.

In fact, I have several songs by them, mostly from the mid-'80s releases Sports and Fore!, and of course the Back to the Future soundtrack. My iPod is equal parts indie rock and '80s music, as I was an MTV kid and grew up in the era of big hair, neon, Spandex and leggings. I loved this shit, and I still do. Call it nostalgia, but hell, I'll stand behind my Huey Lewis love.

Wo-oh!

Also, if you've read and/or seen American Psycho (a movie which I own and love), you'll recall Patrick Bateman's musings about the merit of Huey Lewis and the News:

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

Sports is, of course, the album that featured "Heart and Soul," and also probably the album that secured HLatN a place in rock 'n' roll history. I mean, not only is "Heart and Soul" a song you can immediately sing along with if you were brought up in this era, but the album also features "If This Is It" and "I Want A New Drug." Gold, baby.

Wo-oh!

Here, enjoy yourself a nice little blast from the past:

We all know that the best Huey Lewis & the News song, and possibly the best song the '80s have to offer, is "The Power of Love." Hands down.

I think you're biased by the McFly.

Fuck. YES.

I want that dress!

Huey was the shit!

Jason Quigley! How the hell are you?! You shot Menomena for me!!

Yes, this is classic. It has been many years and I have never forgotten this track or it's lyrics.
