Given that 69LS and EIGV were both classics of the indie genre, and also leant themselves easily to covers and reinterpretation, I think Belle and Sebastian is a great choice, which someone mentioned above. But if you're going Belle and Sebastian route, TIgermilk or Sinister I think is a better choice than Arab Strap.
But really, I think the best would be The Microphones _The Glow, pt 2_.
