I saw this doc at SIFF back in 2005 -- I think it was still a work in progress, but it felt pretty complete to me. I didn't know of the Gits before seeing the film, but was incredibly moved by the band and Mia's story and especially her big raw wonderful voice. I, myself, don't really want to have to experience many more lessons about living life to the fullest every day (because it usually means something sad/tragic has happened), but I do get a small comfort in knowing that Mia lived big in her short life. This is a wonderful documentary -- and I still distinctly remember the kickass feeling I felt when I first heard "Whirlwind" blast through the theater speakers. I know it doesn't compare to what it might have been like to see them live, but it was close as I could get, and I relished it. Two thumbs up from me.
