I picked up Aimee Mann and the new Weezer. So far so good, but I'm not as excited about them as I'd like.
Aimee's CD starts with a great song, Freeway, and there are some decent songs afterwards (keeping in mind I've only listened to it once), but after her SUPERB last CD, The Forgotten Arm, I have to say that the new CD is a little bit of a letdown. Heck, her CD prior to TFA, Lost in Space, was also great and highly recommended.
Anyway, Smilers is more acoustic based and is very very mellow. I'm hoping it grows on me as I listen to it more (and I got tix for the zoo show!).
With regards to Weezer, I love the first song, Troublemaker. The second song, with its hymn melody, is a bit of a stretch. P&B is pretty cool, with its killer chorus. And the rest of the CD kind of mashes up for me. I put in the Green album this morning and got through 6 songs on the way into work and there is not one bad song in those 6. On the Red album? I don't think so.
I love Aimee Mann and =W=, but I gotta say that on a day when I should have been celebrating new music from 2 of my favorite artists, well, I was a bit underwhelmed. :(
