I was actually in Chapel Hill when this song came out, and it was amazing to see the Zippers go from playing crammed in the back corner of a small local bar to having this big ol' hit, all in a short space of time.
It was somewhat tragic that they were lumped into the watered down neo-swing revival (Cherry Poppin' Daddies, etc), as they really were a cut above many of those groups. But, it was what it was, and it was an interesting time.
I remember the head of the record label that I was on at the time telling me he had gone to a conference and the head of Mammoth (the zipper's label at the time) was hyping them up, saying they were going to be huge. My response, was "how is something this quirky going to be huge?"
