I've been trying to find a venue for this opinion, but I think that the absolute apex of the Pumpkins was "Drown" off the soundtrack to Singles. That song, although somewhat out of place on the Seattle-centric movie's soundtrack, might be one of the perfect songs that encapsulates the early 90's musically for me.
