nice write up for one of the best releases of the year.

i wouldn't read too much into individual lines from their songs. except the reflective, room with a view, i don't think any of their songs are about feeling old or anything like that. to me they sounds so fresh and inspired.

it is worth pointing out that, except for a young will schwartz, this band was composed of people that had been in music and bands for 15 years from the get go. So it wasn't like they were kids when they started out. what they benefitted from was their genuine bohemian nature giving them the ability to seem hip and cool back in the late 90s, even though they were starting to approach middle age, not unlike sonic youth back in the late 90s except sonic youth members had always been in the same band.

i doubt they will ever be current with the latest or future trends in indie rock unless trends in indie rock happen to collide with them. however, these special people are indie rock masters and we can expect to hear from them again (but it better not take 5 years).

they just need to get out off their butts and play out more often and then get back in that studio!
