Flagpole Sitta is a glorious song. If Sad Sweetheart had oversaturated the airwaves in the same manner I'm positive people would be saying the same thing about THAT song in 5 more years. But since it didn't, it's still considered a gem.
It's a tough argument to say Flagpole Sitta isn't a well-crafted, smartly written, slickly produced song.
Calling it a black eye, from a musical standpoint, is harsh business and a little unnecessary. From a commercial standpoint, maybe, MAYBE, if it weren't for Sean's reputation of being an all-around brilliant guy, then I'd have to agree. But I have a hard time believing that a large mass of people began holding grudges against our city for that one song.
I think a perfect comparison would be that Napoleon Dynamite movie. It's a hilarious, well-written and produced film, but it'll be a good ten years before I willingly sit down and watch it again, and a large portion of that comes from it's overwhelmingly succesful marketing tactics (aka images/quotes/merchandise being shoved in my face by every Hot-Topic-Shopping-Clowncore-Kid in the NW).

Anyone willing to agree with that one?
