You put together an interesting list. I agree that most "indier-than-thou" people look down on bands like Tool, Mastodon, Thursday (well, the first album) Faith No More and System of a Down - all bands which I have a secret love - and thats too bad. I don't understand why they're shunned, but maybe they can't stand the volume. I've never really understood Panic at the Disco, QOTSA or Coheed & Cambria, but thats just me.

You're right though, Nirvana wouldn't be welcomed these days, but then again, would Death Cab have made it if they arrived in 1990? They'd be laughed off the stage. The scene changes, and it will change back - right now people are still having "alternative rock" hangover.

I can also understand the dislike of crackling voices, not because I dislike it (as seen in my love of all things Oldham) but I know many people who just cringe at that style of singing.

I think from here on in, I will attempt to never use the term "indie". It's always bugged me and maybe its time to finish it off.
